Yay for being a teacher which leaves you loads of spare time to doodle while you students slave away on their work! XD I couldn't work on the fanart stufies/request sketches in front of them, so this popped up while I was trying to pass the time. (Trying out random posey doodles)However... there is something about this that I really, really, reaaaaaallly don't like... >.< Maybe it's just the setting? Maybe it's their poses or Aidin's situation, I just don't like it. X(
Anyways, a random doodle of Oghma and his wife Aidin.
Medium: Pencils on paper
Time: 3-4 hours? (spread out on different days)
Uninteresting charrie information: Oghma was from the reknowned Calflas family of Toรฎle, which had turned out the best strategists for centuries who had loyally aided the ruling king. He was no exception, excelling in all he put his hands in, but most of all in planning battle strategies. However, as he went off to Harmonie for his studies, his family saw danger of him settling there and never returning to serve the land as was expected of him, preferring the company of his friends. To amend that, as soon as he graduated from military school, they had him married off to Aidin, his little cousin (who he did like very much). Yet Oghma could never forget Harmonie, and in the end choosing his friendship with Fenrir over Aidin, left his home once more.
Aidin was left behind - their family would not let her leave, nor did she particularly want to - to make sure Oghma would never end up attacking Toile. But when the time finally came, he did end up directing Harmonie's armies against his home country.
(And ofcourse, since later Oghma suceeded in making a philospher's stone for himself, he gained 'immortality'. Aidan grew on, while he remained the same).
I think somethings a bit off with her arms.... >.> And she's ended up looking a lot more older than she's supposed to, methinks.
How old do you all think the two are anyways? Does Oghma look older than Aidin?
(I somehow still don't like this... >.> What's wrong with it?!)

hmm...just from a first look....well....i completely love it of course...especially in the blue color and the textured look to it. i love the window and the way it's much darker than either of them and that the both of them still stand out against it...and yeah.
otherwise, Aidin's arms aren't too bad, but I think her hands are a little small...her shoulders look a little broad compared to the rest of her figure too, but only slightly. I love her dress though. and her hairstyle...so pretty and refined.
and as far as ages, at first glace, I'd say Aidin looks about 20...like the kind of 20 that could actually be older but looks young for years...but maybe that's making things too complicated....XD
And I would guess Oghma to be about 30....his robe seems a little plain in comparison though...still well-done though with the folds and all. ^_^

Something is very wrong with Aidin's posture/body proportions. I just still can't figure it out! I guess it is around the arms/shoulder's areas as you mentioned... >.<
You did guess the ages somewhat correctly. I'm atleast the huge age gap shows! I always used to get told off for making people too, too young.

Aidin's face is so beautiful ;; I like the clothing and hairstyle and most of all her face, it turned out so beautiful
Oghma definitely looks older than Aidin, physically. He looks 20-30 and she... could be a youth in her teens or maybe around 20. She doesn't really look older than a teen, but her expression makes her seem mature.
I don't know what YOU think is wonky, but I personally assume it's Aidin's pose. Her legs and upper body are pretty twisted against each other. it looks as if she's standing towards the left of the picture and looking at Oghma, but not really directly turning to him but turning her body just into the other direction... erhm. Confusing description. Anyways, the legs and upper body don't really look like they belong together if you look at which direction they're facing.
Her arms are a bit stiff too, but that's not so much of a problem in my opinion.
Anyways, very beautiful sketch! I love your colored/toned sketches so much

Really? I actually thought she looked not so pretty or something. And so I was fussing and fussing about her face until I just decided to leave her looking bleh.
Actually... I do believe that is what is wrong with Aidin's pose... I never quite noticed it until you pointed it out. But then, I did want a sort of turning back towards Oghma type pose. Em... if that makes any sense? Anyways, yes, that might be what is so off about her. >.<
And yay! You did get the ages perfectly right! ^_^ Aidin's pretty young compared to Oghma (12 years younger). But somehow... I always got told off for not making people old enough? Aidin has got an extremely mature expression on her face, beh. (Ah well, she's married! *excuse! XD* )

I don't think that her being married is a lame excuse for her expression at all! From your description she appears pretty mature overall, and for some reason I just believe it makes sense that girls who get married at a young age could, but not necessarily have to, show a more mature outlook on life than others of their age.

EEK!! I haven't been around for ages so I haven't been looking at your art. Haha, feel free to kick me.
Anyways, this is fantabulous! I see you're doing more sketches now? Hmm...I don't know what you don't like about it, but I don't really like Oghma's pose. I think it's the way he's seated, it just looks painful. But overall, everything else is lovely. I like the composition and that moon shining through the window = LOVE.

Yip, I do believe I've started sketching more. It was the huuuuge months breaks in between paintings, getting incredibly out of practice each time, and finally putting my hand in the free sketch thingie which has made me turn towards sketches more. XD
Anyways, Oghma does look uncomfortable. XD He'll probably have a huge backache when he gets up and grumble at everyone around him!!

Oh yes and Aiden is pretty too! Hehe, Oghma reminds me of a wise owl... a pretty wise owl? I love the detailing, especially on the dress and carpet. My that's one pretty dress! I also love the way you've drawn and composed the furniture!
Ages... eh, Aiden... is in her twenties maybe? Oghma...erm... 40's... y'know the 40's that age gracefully?
As for the drawing, I'm not too sure about this but maybe it's the angle of the hips? or maybe *maybe* the other leg that I can't see should be bent a bit more? As in it should seem as if the leg is bent? that would probably help with the weight distribution? Okay, I don't really know what I'm trying to say
But don't worry about 'em much. Overall it's a treat for the eye's, swirly blue-ness. And I get to know more about Oghma *sniff* Awwww!

I think the swirliness and floral design attack came from drawing in a miniature class. XD Subliminal messages to the mind about making patterns! XD
I think you're the first person ever to actually declare one of my charries in the forties-ish age!
Yes I do believe the leg is part of the problem. I think its actually the accursed skirt which has hidden all and makes all seem demented to I! Ofcourse, the major problem is the charries themselves. (Somehow... this part of Oghma's life just reminds me of those headache-giving Anita Desai books >.< )

I was guessing he'd be 30ish first, but 40-ish seems like more of a contemplative age. I'll prolly approach them Anita desai books when I'm that age, I'm still in my 'young and foolish' twenties(I doubt the foolishness will ever wane though).
You might be right about the skirt though, maybe it could use more folds to indicate the position of the legs?? But it looks so pretty, don't change it. Wha? there is nothing wrong with the characters. I really like the body language, it illustrates their relationship nicely!
Were'nt your students curious about this? Or did you make Ustaad jee like promises of a narrating a tale?

I approached them Anita Desai books when I was 14 or so and I totally regret it. Give me heroic sagas for life!
I tried making more folds in her dress but somehow she just looked like an overly weird fan... @_@ So then I kicked them out. My students... meh... I had to spend half an hour explaining to them that 'No! This is NOT a miniature! This is NOT a wasli' -.-' Methinks they think everything that I do is a miniature painting.

I think it looks wonderful, but maybe you're thinking that the fact that her left foot is forward and her right foot is twisted back...maybe you don't like the proportions?...I like it!

I did feel a bit disturbed about the foot, but it was inevitable. She has a long dress on and the right foot had to be hidden... >.< I don't know... it did bother me loads so that's why I added the slit to the side so you can see the tiiiiny little bit of the heel and know where the other leg has gone. Otherwise I know I would have gotten the comment 'where's the other leg?!' at some point. XD
