Description The MPDG might pride themselves on making military grade Mechs but mega-corporations have just as big need for military Mechs as planetary governments, and so in the vast arsenal of Mechs produced in the galaxy are Mechs made specifically for war. The Torrent is one such Mech. Created by Crystosis Corp for its own private military the Torrent is just as capable a war Mech as any MPDG production. The idea behind the Torrent is to suppress and overwhelm the enemy in a hail of bullets. It comes equipped with 2 arm mounted fully automatic machine guns, and missile tubes built into its shoulders. At Medium to close ranges this allows the Mech to deal a significant amount of damage. The choice of having machine guns and missiles is that they require a lot less energy from the power core than laser based weaponry. For infantry Mechs such as this the idea is to keep it straight forward and effective. Making the Mech to complex would require a higher skill threshold for the pilot, but by keeping it low pilots can be trained more quickly for mass deployment. With that said the Torrent does come with an Xfactor in the form of its extra-gravitational wing projectors. This essentially generates a gravitational force behind the Mech while in flight that propels the Mech forward. This form of propulsion allows for very high top speeds while in vacuum, but not very quick directional change. The doctrine behind the Torrent is to deploy them in large numbers and swarm the enemy quickly, and this propulsion system provides an advantage in this regard over traditional thrusters. Because the Torrent is mostly going to be flying in a straight line it is important to protect the Mech, but without upgrading its power core to a much more expensive one, sacrifices had to be made. The sacrifice Crystosis agreed on was armor in favor of shields. The Torrent is considered under armored at a 3.7 inch macro-titanium chassis, but the shed weight allowed for faster acceleration, and more powerful shields. With less than ideal armor the Torrent makes up for it with reliable heavy shielding, having a grade 3 energy shield. Nobody want to face a force of heavily shielded Mechs flying at you at top speeds. However once that heavy shield is depleted the Torrent is very easily destroyed.

During the battle of Archipelago where Crystosis invaded Thrasher Tech space, the second invasion force was made up of mostly Torrent Mechs. At the head of this invasion was sector CMO (chief military officer) Danning Brown. Had he known that Thrasher Tech was going to debut its new Archon Mech in this battle he may have chosen a different mech to head his assault. The Archon had anti-shield weapons effectively neutralizing one of the Torrents main advantages. In the end Thrasher Tech was too unorganized and couldn’t make proper use of this advantage over the Torrent. With that said Crystosis suffered a staggeringly higher casualty rate than expected in this battle. Despite winning the battle the invasion was still considered a blunder on Crystosis Corps behalf and CMO Danning Brown was asked to step down. He immediately went into damage control mode after the invasion, using the fact that he had won the battle to save his position. Instead he took a significant mandatory pay cut for the next 5 years in exchange for keeping his position as a CMO of Crystosis Corp. It remains to be seen if the Torrent will be used in any future conflicts if Crystosis Corp gets involved.
