Description And now, for the most anti-climactic of anti-climactic returns after a long dA absence. I hope you're all doing well.

So (for reasons better left unexplained) I was feeling nostalgic a few days ago, and my thoughts meandered to the Aladdin television series that aired on Toon Disney....what, 1995 or so? Oh, good Lord, that was fifteen years ago. It wasn't exactly what you could call stellar entertainment, but it was fun. Anybody remember it?

I found the episodes on YouTube, and realized that the two characters who had stuck in my head for all of this time were the antagonists Sadira (a self-taught Witch of the Sand, whose powers were somewhat equivalent to the sandbenders of Avatar with some spells thrown in for good measure) and Mozenrath (a sorcerer/necromancer/notorious complainer.)

I liked Sadira, for all of her failed attempts to win Aladdin over. Her goals were fairly innocuous and understandable as far as the villains went, and you can't help but consider the fact that she was an attractive young woman who'd grown up on the streets ("Locking me up in chains? What were you thinking?! I've been picking locks since I was five!") and had fended for herself since childhood. She had a quirky, hard-headed personality I couldn't help but enjoy. In the end, she got her priorities straightened out and "Witch Way Did She Go" (oh, those titles) is my favorite episode.

Plus, her powers were cool.

Mozenrath, on the other hand, was one of those characters who I (and anyone else) should have detested. He was egotistical, manipulative, temperamental and prone to alternating between boasting about his own abilities and whining about how unfair everything was whenever he lost.

But then there's that episode where you find out that the gauntlet he wears (the source of his powers, which he acquired in order to overthrow the sorcerer who taught him) had eaten away the flesh on his right hand and was draining him like a sort of metaphysical cancer. He wasn't that pale and thin because it fit with his intellectual persona or made him look more villainous: he looked that way because he was physically deteriorating and trying to buy himself more time before he died. Probably one of the only cases in a children's show where the bad guy suffers serious personal consequences for ambition. That huge ego actually bruised pretty easily.

Plus, his dry, cynical sense of humor was amusing. And he owned a flying lamprey. And he made the BEST FACES.

And of course, I always assumed that they got together after the show ended. (Or would have gotten together, rather, had it continued.) Persistence and cheerfulness meets cool pragmatism. CLASSIC.

Alright, I think I've said enough.

Ah I loved this show. I mean, Aladdin made for a great episodic show b/c "Dude w/ flying carpet goes on random adventures with friends"...who wouldn't enjoy that? The reoccurring villains were great (except Abis Mal...his name pretty much said it all). Mozanrath was great. I really wished that Sadira would have popped up more, but I think she sort of realized she was fighting a losing battle. I always especially liked Mirage (the cat lady) and the Blind Guy. I dunno, their history that was hinted at was super interesting to me. I also really enjoyed the eps w/ Aladdin and Abu's back story ^_^ God that was a fun show.

Seriously. Mirage and...Fasir, I think his name was...had this past that was hinted at, and I really wish they'd gotten to explore it. Backgrounds for the villains, writers! Viewers of all ages really appreciate it!

Thanks for the comment.

AGREED.

I've always felt for Mozenrath because he's just Aladdin's age but his life is on a total different track.

And Sadira only wanted some love, man! (Plus I like that episode where she worked with Jasmine. That was cool.)

Especially considering the fact that all he's had as company for the majority of his life are an evil master, a flying eel, and an army of zombies. I would have gone a little nuts too. XD

Thanks!

Oh no, they did not get together...despite them at least looking like a semi-decent couple a long term relationship would be impossible mostly, at least in my opinion, they are too much goal oriented to ever settle for one another. They might join forces for an episode if the show had progressed and definite flirting would have commenced but in the end Mozenrath would have betrayed Sadira for his own personal gain and they'd end up fighting each other, the scheme they were working on would have gone to pot and they'd end up enemies.

Or they would end up in bed together, Sadira would start trying to "change" Mozenrath as us females like to do with our men, especially cuddly assholes like the said dark sorcerer here, and the relationship would have collapsed and they'd fight each other and end up going their separate ways.

Either way, no, they wouldn't do well as a couple, so sorry to burst your bubble.

[picks up an iron skillet] Now, back away slowly from MY dark sorcerer before SOMEONE gets HURT!

The last panel looks like Zutara or well an evil version of it anyway.

Yeah, I think this pairing was one of the many precursors to Zutara in my shipping history...I really should have noticed the patterns by now. XD

This is such an awesome set of drawings! I love the dynamic poses with their powers, the top left reminds me a lot of Katara and Mozenrath's action pose is quite fitting, less fluid and more grounded.

And the pic at the bottom is very sweet, I like the maturity of your drawing style and how realistic they look. Draw more!!

Thank you! I'm glad you think the poses are suited to them.

Are you into fanfics? I've got lots of Mozenrath fanfics below. And one slightly Zutara

I am indeed into fanfics: I was actually thinking of writing a piece for these two myself, but I have a senior thesis and another project that needs working on too.

I read "Entangled" and I have to ask: where is the rest of it!? If it's discontinued, could you tell me what was planned to happen? I'm veeeerry curious.
