Description Last weekend I attended a LARP tournament and took the opportunity to let the wonderful soma-chan ([link] ) take some photos of my gear while dressing for battle. Including a photo with my squire (and a misplaced mail hood) as well as a photo during combat. Do not hesitate to comment or ask a question.

Your armor is epic and if thats LARP then that looks like a group I wouldnt mind being a part of. Looks a lot better than the one LARP in the USA I went to and never returned where the outfits were rather... bad. Looks closer to how the living history is over here which on this side of the pond that stuff is rare. I typically am into living history myself due to the fact LARP here is rather.... bad.

Thanks again! A part of the LARP scene in germany is very historically oriented. Some people even do both living history and LARP. Here are some more photos from the event my photos were taken: plus.google.com/photos/1159153…

Yeah looks rather nice, it seems more historical than even the SCA which is common here. I'd fit right in with my current kit, I rather like the LARP weapons your group uses, they look rather realistic which I really have no clue where to get weapons like that over here, most of the ones I see are not that historical looking.

I really like it.
U use it for LARP? Or living history too?

Thanks so much! So far I only used it for LARP and there are still some parts that are historically not correct (especially the helmet).

I planned to ask about the helmet. Is that a reason, why you say the complete outfit is for LARP and not for LH?
I am really impressed by the precise layering: No LARPer build costume this way - actually, I've seen that only on BotN warriors.

Actually, I'm waiting for a second helmet (an early bascinet) to arrive. I think, that the outfit is still not accurate enough (e.g. I partly used hollow rivets and machine seams) and not safe enough (e.g. the gambeson and the plates are too thin) for LH events or full contact battles.
There is a certain part in the german LARP scene that is more or less historically oriented and I'm feeling fine with this kind of LARP. Here are some more photos from the event last weekend: [link] .

Wait, not safe enough for LH battles? You have way more than most of the people fighting there.
We are even fighting with helmets, armguards and legguards only sometimes. You could easily fight in there (as long its not full contact or anything in Poland...^^)

I had full contact in mind.

Nice gear, very historically accurate for 12-13th century knights, the white and green chest piece you're wearing is it just a riveted cloth tunic or is it brigandine armor?

Thank you. Actually, it's all early 14th century style (except the helmet which is not historical at all). The chest piece is a wisby-style coat of plates which is roughly built like this: [link] .

Cool, I'm do viking reenactment myself but from what I know didn't they stop using mail and brigandine armor in favor of gambesons and plate armor by the 14th century given mail's added weight and the innovations in Germany and Italy?

Well, first the transition from mail to plate armour was a long process. Around 1300 (the beginning of the 14th century) armour was mail-dominated where certain plate armour parts like helmet and early coat of plates were added. Around 1400 (the the end of the 14th century) armour was plate-dominated and chainmail was mainly used for specific parts of the body like arm pits and feet.

So my gear is somewhere in between with a balanced mix of scales, riveted plates, fully formed plates and chainmail.

Second, the typical gothic plate armours from Germany and milanese plate armours from Italy you mentioned were developed in the 15th century.
