Description ------ updated August 12th 08, fine art print added ------

Image Description:
Fill flash, sunset, crest of a rain storm, darkness in waters.

Would like to know if melodrama like this is to people's liking or if more naturalist presentation is preferred?

This shot is related to the more downplayed scrap 146 btw, as example of what I mean of softer and less dramatic approach.

Beautiful. I really like the water droplets. They add a subtle touch to the photo but really give it new meaning

This picture is beautifully mysterious and fragile. The water ripples are very subtle.

I like the "melodramatic" approach, it's much more powerful and I think prompts a greater response from the viewer (for me, anyway.)

Yah. It seems to be the proper course that when subtle edits fail to convey the real artistic message, that the general limits of the photo should be superseded by expressionist edits. There are limits though and I hope to stay true to the light when possible... I would also say, the subtle method is more powerful once/if a viewer gets it, but the drama method is more 'forceful' so more people get it

That's tough.

...Bring on the melodrama, I suppose, for the richness of colour and more emotional feel. The other (the link in the description) is a lovely photograph all on it's own, but it lacks that something, me thinks.

It's a fine line to walk between doing far too little and far too much. When asked I suggest 'i am an artist' not 'i am a photographer', I'm not of the purist photo school, making an image is more important then making 'hoto' to me. But on the other hand there is a great deal of over worked photos that I do not hold in high regard at all, and I will have to be careful not too push too far.
