Playing around with coloring a bit. Felt like drawing another fantasy critter and the harpy seemed appropriate.Related content

For some reason, the colouring makes me remember the real harpy eagles.

It does, with the black back and whitish stripe.Β haha.Β I honestly cannot remember if I did that deliberately. I was somewhat fascinated with harpy eagles around that timeΒ period (I had seen one a couple of years earlier in South America), so it very well may have been on purpose.Β

Well, certainly there is some resemblance. Harpy Eagles are just fabby! And it's a nice touch for your myth harpy.

Your illustration is a really good mix between wild life type beauty, and offbeat fairy tale logic, in both execution and the harpy's design here. It also brings up memories of ambitious 1980's fantasy films like "Return To Oz" and "Dark Crystal" in those same regards.

Yeah, I have seen far too many Harpy pictures that just seem to be an excuse to draw a bird with boobs. I wanted to go for something sinister instead of, "Look at these!"
