This picture is, to sum it up, amazing. It is so simple, and yet somehow, so profound, and it speaks to the viewer in so many different ways.
At first glance, I saw trees, which sucked me in because I love trees; they're majesty, beauty, power and mystery gets me every time. Having trees as the subject of this stunning photo was a big part of what drew me in.
But I also saw mist, which greatly enchants me. Mist, smoke, and anything of the sort, is so simple; so commonplace; yet it adds a certain layer of mystery and intrigue to any piece of art; mist is quite possibly my favorite element of art.
The sunlight breaking through a hole in the leaves also is quite breathtaking. Its light pierces through the mystery provided by the smoke, adding a layer of complexity and almost symbolism this work. The lines in the smoke caused by the rays of sunlight serve as a guide, making the pinpoint of sun into an epicenter, and immediately drawing the viewer's eyes to that epicenter. Honestly, I'm not sure I would love this photo as much without that one element.
There is also something interesting about having two trees: one in the foreground, and one in the background. It is not uncommon to see a piece of art displaying a lone tree in the center, thus creating a feeling of loneliness, majesty, power, beauty, or anything else, depending on the art. But having a second tree in the background, just behind the first tree, adds a certain element of magic to this: what purpose does the first tree serve? Is it a warrior? A sentinel? A layer of beauty? A mystery? And more intriguing still, what purpose does the second tree serve, and how does it complement the first?
Also, now that I'm looking more closely at this work, I see something else that I'm wondering if it was intentional, and it's giving me chills: noticed that on the left side of this photo, it's darker: the smoke seems to be thicker, and the environment itself is darker. Other trees hover rather ominously over a fence; I'm wondering what's on the other side of that fence, why it's so closely guarded by trees, and why it's enshrouded in darkness. But the lightning gradually changes; on the right side of this photo, everything is lighter. The smoke is lighter; the trees stand tall, rather than hovering over something secret; and patches of blue sky can be seen, providing an element of hope. And in the middle of it all, amidst the contrasting dark and light, stand the two trees, with the sunlight piercing through.
I don't know of you realize this, my friend, but through this unintended symbolism, you have stumbled across something universal, relevant, chilling, beautiful, mysterious, and intriguing, all at the same time, in the same gorgeous work.
This work is just...unbelievable. That's all I can say. At first glance, it seems simple, yet beautiful, but as the viewer looks deeper, they see something different about it. It pulls the viewer in and challenges them to explore its hidden secrets.
In short: great work!!

Thank you for sharing this photograph. Very, very clever work and use of the sun rays. Yes the smoke does look like mist and add "the other worldly" factor to this shot. You are indeed experimenting with an extremely mature eye and congratulations on a stunning shot.

Wow, I've seen how smoke makes the suns rays pop like this before (at a smaller scale) so I'm sure it was even more stunning actually standing there!

That's quite beautiful. Don't know if that's something that happens out of luck, skill or both, but regardless, a beautiful moment
