Description Born to middle-class unicorn parents and named after a heroine of old, it wasn't long before Glinteng changed his name to Glinted Chape and struck out for greener pastures. After a brief stint as a city guard of Canterlot, Glint finally found his place amongst the Royal Guard of Everfree, where he made a name for himself with his keen eye and rigid adherence to order. Perhaps the defining moment of his career came when he stumbled across a plot to assassinate the Royal Sisters. And while his saber fell sure that day, perhaps the least pleased with the result was Glinted Chape himself.

Ill-interested in the airs of the nobility, but ever willing to stay on top of court politics in the name of his job, Glint was eventually named Captain of the Guard as a compromise between several other candidates. By then he had painstakingly built a reputation of possessing the bushiest mustache and the most unflinching resolve of any pony in Everfree Castle, not counting Celestia or Luna of course. The resolve, that is. Not the mustache. And while it cannot be said that Glint is much of an inventive pony, or even a great leader, he is certainly forward thinking, hence his trademark saber. A practical and competent stallion at least, well loved by his guardponies. He has recently come into a disfiguring facial scar after a battle with a vicious vampire. While that wound may heal in time, the scars of losing ponies to the monster will never leave Glint's already heavy soul.

The age of knights and chivalry has ended where Glint is concerned. Only vigilance can protect Equestria now. And dark times are ahead.

===

This character was originally named "Fawn Saber" in the earlier drafts of Swordpony. Thankfully that's changed.

His colors are brown and honey-gold. His cutie mark is a sword secured in its scabbard, symbolizing both the willingness and the reluctance necessary to wisely wield any weapon.

Well, the sword and shield look second-priority. I know they were, but the difference in detail is a bit noticeable. Considering this thing's place as a sketch, though, all is forgiven. The shield, mostly, just looks plain, with no coat of arms or anything that would require its presence here. I like his backstory; a plain, sturdy soldier for his plain, sturdy instruments. Pragmatic in view and action, and your paragraph conveys the well. The clarification about the moustache was well-needed. The scar is well-done, and the details on his face are clearly more defined than the rest of the drawing. His moustache you stole from yourself, in real life, so no points there.

Overall not a bad character. Perhaps a fantasy staple, the steadfast, almost by-the-book lesser of two evils, a world-wear guard captain known for his straight, no-nonsense approach. But he seems to be a well done version of said character.

Actually I wrote him up for Swordpony well before I grew the mustache. And his magnificent facial hair far outstrips my own.

He probably comes across better in the story itself, given time. He doesn't quite fit the archetype you described. Or maybe he does, and I just don't realize it. It's not like he's had any time to shine yet.

The shield is definitely the worst part of all this, but I figured I'd draw his sigil instead of his cutie mark, since that's what I did with the Lobster Knight.

Well, to be fair, you've shown me a Cliff's Notes of the character, I can only see what's presented here and go off of that.

The scar looks gnarly, I gotta say.

Love the back story. A stallion that's worked for his position, and now is regretting it.

I wouldn't say he regrets it, but he definitely has regrets.
