Description
Kayin (or Kain) - the first immortal, Lilit 's first love...
Yes, he is an inspiration for the Biblical Cain just as Lilit inspired the mythology of Eve and Lilith. However, what's been remembered and written about them, as usual, bears little or no resemblance to reality. I mean, if you'd told them that they'd be remembered as mother and son, Kayin would have been horrified. Lilit would have laughed - until you said that her twin brother would be remembered as Adam, the so-called "Father of Man." Then she would have punched you.
Behind-the-Scenes If he resembles Deshret al-Fazil (or Deshret resembles him) it's because he's supposed to. There are important points in Deshret's history with Layla Aschenbrand (Lilit) where his uncanny resemblance to her first love, Kayin, plays a part. The shape you see here is one I'd wanted to try some time ago, but couldn't afford two key parts. What I'd have done then was use different skin textures depending on which character it was supposed to be - Deshret or Kayin. I managed something using the shapes and textures I did have and that's the Genesis 3 Deshret you might have seen elsewhere in my gallery.
Regarding his name... Kayin is the spelling that's been in my story notes for very nearly two decades, but I've also leaned towards Kain during that same period of time. If you've followed any of my other scattered notes for and ramblings about Layla Aschenbrand you know that she's an ancient immortal named Lilit who suffered an unprecedented head injury in October 1999 and lost all memory of who and what she is. Immediately following that she met Deshret al-Fazil and Detective Kane McKellen. One resembled Kayin and the other had his name. It didn't trigger memories, only feelings, and Layla instinctively wanted to trust them without understanding why. I had an idea that someone living for tens of thousands of years and traveling all over the world would probably see the same faces appear again and again over time, different people who just happen to look like someone else from the past. It's even likely that Layla would have seen her own face, too, especially since a lot of people are descended from her. I can already see that it happens to real people within normal lifetimes - myself included - so I guess it was a better idea than I first thought.
