Description Koalas are marsupials. They have 5 digits on each front paw, two of which act as thumbs to help the koala grip branches and food. Koalas are mostly nocturnal, sleeping up to 18-20 hours per day to enable them to digest their toxic, fibrous, low-nutrition eucalyptus diet and sleeping is the best way to conserve energy.
