Description A long exposure photograph taken while standing on a moving escalator at Dallas-Fort Worth airport. Actually, it took me about six tries to get something usable...I kept going back up and down the escalators like some kind of wierdo

I really understand you. I'm nomally looking down onto people as they look at me weird for taking pictures in a downward fasion. Down stairs, down escalators, and then there are the pictures of my feet.....

green is one of my favorite hues…
…and combined with the layout of this capture, how the eye is drawn upwards along a constricted passageway
makes for an interesting composition…
…definitely worth a few trips up and down the escalator

I, personally, love the blur. It is very appropriate for something entitled " e-motion" to actually have a sense of motion.

What you've done with the colors is very nice and what really makes this shot stand out is your choice of framing. It really sets it apart from all the other similar shots.

the color and overall effect are great. Be careful about acting wierd in airports or you'll end up getting strip searched.

The birth of a photo.

First of all, I cann't imaging how hard it is to get such a photo. Maybe I need to try someday.
Long exposure on moving tracks, that seems impossible, but you managed to get it right. The best part it how it all blends into darkness on the way down (although the stairs go up).
Then there is a perspective towards light which gives it a positive feeling. *Impressed*

Well, the difficulty mostly comes first in setting the shutter speed to give you a decent blur, but not too much to make it indistinguishable, and then setting the apeture accordingly. Then you have to time the shot and get the angle right after stepping onto the escalator, and then keep your hands relatively steady so the blur doesn't get out of control.

But it is fun to try

Really a nice shot!
I love the green color u used for it, it adds a futuristic look to it. Reminds me somehow on a Science-Fiction movie. Would be interested to know more about how you work on a shot like this to get the result so clearly without the effect of grains or pixels. Think it was shot with a digital SLR-Camera.
Great work!

welder In reply to two7heads [2003-10-08 00:35:41 +0000 UTC]

Yes, shot digital. To get good results with a digicam, I almost never set the ISO higher than 100, even in low light (at least until I get a better cam that can handle higher ISO without noise). Other things that help a shot like this are level and contrast adjustments, and to reduce grain a slight amount of selective blurring in Photoshop, though not always easy to do, can work wonders.

Thanks for the comment, happy to hear you like the shot

You can always tell a true photographer by the lengths they are willing to go to (or the fools they are willing to make of themselves) to get the shot...and you are definitely one of those. That's what I love about photography, you have to get in it, involved with it. There's nothing like putting yourself out there, or stepping out of your comfort zone like that in front of people to get your shot...its a great conversation starter. Anyway, now I will comment on your image, its beautiful! I love the light and color. Its very smooth looking. Well done!!

Or something like that.

You can go ahead and point out anything you don't like, I can take it

Yes, though, in this case the blur was kind of the point. (Otherwise I would've just taken the shot standing still )

Thanks as always for the input my friend.

wonderful shot, i see it was difficult but worth it. I would have loved to see you going up and down, i would have taken one of you doing it. That cracked me up art, your description!!! I love the color in this, the blurred effect gives it a sci-fi kind of feeling, would love to see this in perfect clarity, but this is just really cool taken as is. Nice shot art.

The funniest thing is to block people to take a photo, i did it on a moving sideway
Now on the photo itself, like everyone i like the hues, and think pretty much everything good about was said i'll tell you its flaws
It is slightly tilted, that doesn't bother me, but i know from experience some dislike that; and also it lacks of focus, there's nowhere where the eye can see some sharp detail, except maybe on the lower left on the ramp.
But don't get me wrong, i like that photo
