Description I added some flat color in the hopes that the casual viewer will be able to decipher this chaotic sketch of mine.

Part of a MASA battle group, featuring several Lenscruisers flying in formation with a massive Ship of the Line.*

Just felt like drawing a lot of MASA ships, for no reason that has absolutely anything to do with anything else!

*Side note, Lenscruiser skippers often hate flying in task forces with the less nimble Ship's of the Line, and refer to task force duty as being "S.O.L" or "Ship Out of Luck."

Thanks.

FYI, The big green one is Seth's ship. [link]

It's not actually green. I just colored the line art so it would pop out.

Core Chronicles: Mechacratic Invaders! update rollup 1
Since the pushback to January 10th, I'm positive you're antsy about what'll happen within. Rest assured that I am done planning the first episode, and am in development of it now!

I do have to tell you that she may have been able to come alone had someone not taken it upon themselves to be her disciple...

I could say that MASA helmsmen are just that bad ass, but the real truth is, concessions have to be made to accommodate a limited image area.

Is this supposed to be a review pass or some kind of Blue Angels routine with cruisers and SotL?

Either way it's impressive.

we-r-nomad In reply to Firest [2010-12-26 03:18:20 +0000 UTC]

Sounds like good reasons. I mean, I can't think of any other recent events that would have MASA task forces suddenly mobilizing like this.

Night-Miner [2010-12-26 02:22:41 +0000 UTC]

WOW

Now that is way cool

The Lenscrusiers add a real extra layer to the SoL, like battle groups do for Aircraft Carriers

we-r-nomad In reply to Night-Miner [2010-12-26 03:21:03 +0000 UTC]

That's the plan. I'm debating on whether of not to include formations of SELF's.

Night-Miner In reply to we-r-nomad [2010-12-26 03:26:12 +0000 UTC]

Aha.

Hhhmm, could work. Think SoLs could run in all Big Gun groups - similar to the squads that took part in the big naval engagements before the Carrier really arrived? Or would they be too vulnerable to fighters and or lighter ships with more manoeuvrability?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

we-r-nomad In reply to Night-Miner [2010-12-26 03:35:28 +0000 UTC]

Hmmmm, a flotilla of SoL's. Sounds neat.

They'd still be vulnerable to smaller craft, of course, but they could serve as the nucleus to a ginormous mega task-force.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Night-Miner In reply to we-r-nomad [2010-12-26 03:47:28 +0000 UTC]

Cool

I must confess that when I think about Space 'Navies' in sci-fi verses with energy shield technology I kinda think a Capital Ship would be less vulnerable to smaller ones then CSs are in the modern world - particularly as they'd be able to carry more power plants and thus have stronger shields.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

we-r-nomad In reply to Night-Miner [2010-12-26 04:09:48 +0000 UTC]

I don't know. A force with a proper industrial base could crank out enough drones to get through whatever counter craft ordinance a SoL could throw up. The sacrifices would be insane, but that would mean little to a determined foe. Fighter protection would still have a place in filling any conceivable gaps.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Night-Miner In reply to we-r-nomad [2010-12-26 04:18:13 +0000 UTC]

That's certainly true.
Not gonna argue for a moment that they wouldn't be vulnerable, just less so than in our modern world.

I think any Capital Ship in a sci-fi universe would need some form of fighter or escort screen in addition to its shields or CiWS. After all we saw what happened to the Super Star Destroyer in Return of the Jedi.

That's the thing about the Star Wars universe. it seems that the bigger, badder, and more menacing you are, the more humbling your eventual comeuppance will be.

Just ask the Fett family.

I should say, just for the record, that if one's looking for good, old fashioned naval combat... only in space, the Honor Harrington series is a great place for it. It's by David Weber, and some of the books are available for free at the publisher's library.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Firest In reply to Utah3333 [2010-12-28 03:02:41 +0000 UTC]

The Honor Harrington series does have great battles, and up until recently I would have agreed that they were the best. But if you really want to see space combat done right you need to read Jack Campbell's Lost Fleet series.

Once you get past the slightly goofy premise in the first chapter the story climbs swiftly uphill, as the bane of most sci-fi space battles, Newtonian Physics, is here used to brilliant effect to craft realistic and exciting space fleet combat actions.

Just as an example, a huge part of every battle in the series is the fact that because of the speed of light, by the time the characters see what an enemy is doing across a solar system several minutes, or even hours might have past.

Oh Fett... My bad...

Whenever I think deaths in RotJ Leia's killing of Jabba is what comes to mind, although I don't think of Boba cause in extended universe he escapes the Sarlacc - just like we all know Aayla was only stunned by the Clone Troopers and okay Jango is sorta brought down cause his jet-pack fails him but then he does get killed by one of the most badass Jedi in the sega.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

we-r-nomad In reply to Night-Miner [2010-12-26 04:54:24 +0000 UTC]

I refuse to recognize the so-called "Extended Universe."

Until its in a movie, it's all just glorified fan-fiction.

Okay, Jango did get whacked by SamJack, his beheading was so swift, it may as well have been an execution.

Darth Maul died quickly as well, but the way he fought, no one would ever mistake him for anything other than a total bad ass.

Night-Miner In reply to we-r-nomad [2010-12-26 04:58:16 +0000 UTC]

Ah okay, fair enough I suppose - Do you count the animated (cgi and tradition) Clone Wars as canon?

Yep, couldn't class Jango or Maul as getting quick humbling deaths. But overall the Star Wars universe does have a habit of handing out quick a few humbling experiences to the supposedly baddest of the bad.

we-r-nomad In reply to Night-Miner [2010-12-26 05:09:03 +0000 UTC]

I stopped watching when they started featuring Baby Boba Fett as a villain.

She needs more electrotorture to help her grow. She's had one or two good hits already. Annoyingly, the recent stories have concentrated on the political. (And not only that, but brain-dead and backwards politics).

heh yeah, she's had a couple of scenes - more would be good though

LOL - very very true

...Although not sure that's an issue of humbling or just demonstrating that if you capture some hot girl, put her in something skimpy and show her off on your leash - remember to tie her up so she can't strangle you!

Most definitely

Of course the prouder the girl/woman the more tightly she should be bound. ...Can you imagine how badly dead Jabba would have been had he allowed Azula the same 'freedom' he allowed Leia? ...And that's before we start talking about the crazy blue firebending and lightning...

He probably gave Leia a pass, since she didn't even think to shout, "Hey, Luke, watch out for the trap door!!!"

"I guess this one won't be needing a gag." he probably thought.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Night-Miner In reply to we-r-nomad [2010-12-26 04:52:27 +0000 UTC]

LOL very fair point - although maybe it was him pulling on the collar that stopped Leia from shouting

Heh, now I can't believe for a moment that proud Princess Leia wouldn't have said enough things to Jabba to make him think of gagging her - I mean if Han didn't think of gagging her after about 5 minutes of knowing her in ANH I'd be amazed.

Still you'd think he should have known better, heck you'd think he'd have enjoyed the view of skimpily clad girls bound and gagged more anyway!

I'm figuring the clones held onto them. Spending ten years in the company of dudes who look like them, has probably left more than a few of them with unresolved needs.

That would make a lot of sense - although the convoys getting the girls back to Clone bases were probably attacked and captured by the FMP.
