I've been thinking since the comic featured him. Since King Sombra was good but turned evil and twisted after absorbing the Dark Magic maybe The Sombra from the original world had a similar story to tell.Β
The Plague of Dark Magic that over took the other world might have been just starting in the original world, nothing seemed to work to stop it. So in a final attempt Sombra decided to sacrifice himself by taking in all that Darkness so no one would suffer. The rest we already know about

indeed every pony has a dark side^^ but probably not as dark as sombra also great art. though it looks like there's wings underneath that cape. the composition are nice aswell good balance between darks and lights.
