lovely. and who doesn't like to blow things up.
Back in Russia, I used to blow up various gas cans in a fire and make torches from tree branches.
The lenz flare is a bit too much.
Perhaps you could create an orange "color" layer all around the planet, so its more overally coherent in colors.

yes. That purple lenz flare doesn't fit in.
Color it orange a bit!

i said i would give some critical comments and so i will,
i was gonna comment on some of your earily pieces but you have learnt from the mistakes in those pieces as i can see in this one so im not going to bother, but i can see that you started in the same place as me with greg's tutorials and you have come alot further than me too (though i have been doing it for less).
ok now to the comments,
first the good stuff as thats quicker and easier to say,
planet explosion is great, texture on the other planet is also good (though could be improved i think but i'll talk about that in a second) and the best thing in this picture is that you havent got too much going on (with respect to the space/starfield) as i saw in some of your other pieces and its the mistake i still make.
ok now the improvements (because i dont like to say bad points )
first and most noticeable for me is that little piece of rock near the other planet (top right corner) it looks wrong there as at first glance you dont know if its hitting the other planet (of course its not as its too far away but still it confuses your audience alittle) so move it alittle away from the planet, looking at that piece abit closer makes me think it is meant to be hitting the planet as you have a little bit of a glow around it, if that was your intention then make it smaller or the planet bigger as its out of proportion.
i know its not a big deal as its only a little piece in the big picture but everything needs to be perfect for that true WOW effect.
ok next thing,
the stars arent as good as you could have done, as i know the tutorial that you did this from and i've done this too so it stands out alittle more to me than maybe others (no offence people). anyway the problem i can see is that i know where you took the eraser and got rid of some of the stars, some bits i can see where you clicked the mouse down and moved the eraser around, (for me its very noticeable). i know you were trying to randomise it abit and not completely fill the sky/space but you have sharp edges on the starfields. the best way to correct this would be to use the stamp clone tool on screen setting so you keep the stars already there. i cant comment any more on the starfield as this is too a problem i have but i hope that what i've said is useful and more importantly that you also agree and can see what im saying as then you will notice it on your own in future work.
last point to make you'll be happy to know as you probably getting sick of reading all of this.
the planet's texture, it is very basic (no offence it is good but just keep reading) and it looks exactly like greg's which is good but you can spend 5 mins longer and add more detail to it and it will look great.
what im talking about wasnt covered in his tutorial and its something i experimented with, its basically more atmosphere/clouds. i know you have seen some of my work called "a planet with a view" and on that one i added an extra layer after the highlights and shadows and used a brush with a cloud texture with the colour white to carefully add some extra detail, personally i think it looks better because of it. (just got another point that i just spotted and that is there are stars showing through your planet's dark side ).
look at some of my other pieces (if you havent already as i tried to add more atmosphere to them).

and compare them to this one [link] without any atmosphere extras.
i hope i've said some things that are useful and that i havent sounded too big headed as im newer to this than you, but i've said what i think about it and some of it might sound wrong to you but everyone's different..

uber-massive comment greatly appreciated man, the planet in the corner is a bit out of proportion, and the texture method i used (gregs), i use no longer, i know it looks like the stars go through the dark side of it, but thats just my crappy attempt at making city lights
yeah, my starfield edges are a bit dodgy, and i also just noyiced that they were a bit blurry, oh well, thanks for the advice, and i will implement it in my next peice

np, dude, your comments are good feedback ^^
i actually have better city lights on an earlier piece, [link]
i couldve done better on those opnes, now that i look at it, though the lights on random planet are a totally different method, as thew entire planet is another method, i like it much better than gregs, and it has many, many more layers, and textures, and im rambling now, so im gonna shut up
