Amazing, I use microns because I'm a real detail fiend, but that shading with dots doesn't give me this effect, which is rather realistic and impressive

How are you protecting the paper from aging? Ballpoint pen isn't acid free. I have drawing in ball point I did years ago that ate away at the paper. I've seen a trend of this medium being used and it's baffling me due to it's short life.

Vira1991 In reply to DRagsdale [2013-04-17 19:12:11 +0000 UTC]

That's such an interesting question...I just didn't think about it. I started drawing with pen in September 2012. I haven't noticed any changes since then .But they may appear, because, really, paper is acid free, but pen isn't. We'll see. Thanks for the question,it's really interesting.

You do such great Museum quality work! I just wouldn't like to see you get disappointed with your work due to the longevity of the materials used.

Here's an example of a piece in bic ballpoint pen I did in 2000 [link] . It's still mostly intact and showing some small signs of acidic activity on the front surface, but behind the piece on the back surface of the paper is a significant amount of acidic damage. Have you done work in oil paint? Has great longevity and a demanding market once your accepted into it! With your skill level your going to go far.

Thank you so much for your comment!!!! I've been dreaming to draw with oil for all my life! I just don't have much time now. I must pass my exams at first, also I must go to work...It's difficult to combine all this...But this will help me to earn some money to buy materials for painting. It's my biggest dream - to paint. I'm not sure if I am succeed, but I really want to try.

Thank you, dear! I practiced on crosshatching at first. But when I start drawing a portrait with pen I try not to think if I am able to achieve great result. I just do it and enjoy the process. The more I concentrate on each stroke that I try to draw with pen,the less fun I achive This is is my rule - just to relax You can have a look at wonderful video which gives much understanding how to use pen.[link]
