Description I can't help it, I'm in a pterosaur phase. Blame Drawdinovember

Well "I can't" blame you. Pterosaurs are awesome!  Their anatomical features make them more unique than any common reptile (both living and extinct).

This looks great. Paleo art needs speculation.

I like that you've captured it as it's taking off! Most representations of this depict them taking to the air like some kind of sea bird, but I really like that you're taking into consideration the evidence that pterosaurs catapulted themselves into the air with the forelegs.

Awesome drawing! I love the colors! One question: What is this pterosaur doing exact? Is he taking off or "standing" with just his forelimbs?

I must say I really like this one. It doesnt have these needles bald bladders and folds on its skin (like previous ones) which I find ugly, and still have wing shape what seems to be very correct. This is one of the best pterosaur drawing at all.

Thanks. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Preradkor In reply to Vincent-Covielloart [2015-11-13 18:07:50 +0000 UTC]

I know, but creatures with so prominent bladders on their body are quite rare and these which have them (like for example tragopan, hooded seal or frigatebird) can shrunk these decorations to almost nothing when are not neaded at the moment. I think probably most of pterosaurs were streamlined like today most flying birds.

And still i dont like these bladders

arvalis In reply to Preradkor [2015-11-13 18:25:23 +0000 UTC]

There are plenty of birds with such structures that don't go away.  Look at Marabou Storks for example

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Vincent-Covielloart In reply to arvalis [2015-11-13 22:31:54 +0000 UTC]

That's what I had in mind and mentioned when I painted the Zhejiangopterus. In my mind they would be a flamboyant bunch much like birds today.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Preradkor In reply to Vincent-Covielloart [2015-11-13 22:41:47 +0000 UTC]

Well, it was easy to guess, but marabou storks are some of the ugliest birds. I think most of pterosaurs were probably gracefull. So I prefer this reconstruction than previous two.

Vincent-Covielloart In reply to Preradkor [2015-11-13 18:22:01 +0000 UTC]

Giant flying lizards are also quite rare. Who's to say that they couldn't "deflate" these bladders. The painting is merely a snapshot of a scene. As I said this is all speculation, and more about imaginative realism than anything else.

but I do like them
