Description For the record I have nothing against people who work for telemarketers, and do their best to earn an honest living doing a hard job. I do have issues with telemarketing businesses that condone dishonesty, pray on customers, and generally believe that making a sale at all costs with complete disregard to the most basic decency and ethics is not only acceptable but the norm.

As for this page I have only one other thing to say, please don’t judge Leira too harshly. She might not be the bravest Drow ever but she has a good heart

My feelings exactly (the last panel i mean)

Too bad that once i killed him, they made such a small deal out of it: and simply went on...

I guess by that time they'd had enough of killing and maiming, so one more or one less didn't make much difference regardless of what past history they had

Moi je leur dis: "Je sais que vous avez un script devant vous, et que vous avez reponse à toutes mes objections, alors je vais me taire et nous pouvons perdre notre temps en silence." Ils comprennent le message assez vite d'habitude

Telemarketers! GRRRR!

I'm sure glad I'm on my country's "do not call list."

So am I, but my bank and credit card companies still can call me. What I tell them now is that I know they have a script in front of them, and that whatever I say they have a reply to it.

So I inform them that we can do things 2 ways, they can waste a lot of time that would be better used calling someone else, or they can accept the fact that I'm not interested in their product/service, never have and never will.

Suprinsingly enough most get the message in the first 45 seconds of our conversation

For the ones who do call, I have a unique way of dealing with them.

When I pick up the phone all I say is,"hello."

I then wait 15-20 seconds to hear a response. If I don't hear anything by then, I know it's a telemarketer and I hang up. I have yet to get any followup call the next day by that particular telemarketing company for whatever it is they are trying to sell at that time.

For that matter, the ony ones who do call back have first talk to my wife (they then call back later), or the ones who get our message machine.

If I say "hello" they launch into their sales pitch, so you must have a more intimidating voice than mine

RORSTER In reply to vick330 [2009-09-05 17:25:19 +0000 UTC]

LOL! I doubt that.

It may be the telemarketer's training. It might also be something in their programmed system that waits for a momentary pause and then connects the call to the telemarketer when it hears the call receipient speak again. That's my best guess about how their electronic calling system works in this half of the world!

vick330 In reply to RORSTER [2009-09-08 17:26:07 +0000 UTC]

I usually get those automated messages when I'm out for some reason, and since the answering machine replies I end up with their sales pitch. It stops there because afterwards a live telemarketer comes on and goes, "Hello? Helloooooooo." and doesn't insist.

Telemarketing zombies are even worse, their evil masters know when you are sleeping and were you are awake. They know when you're eating or when you just stepped in your bathtub, and they select those moments for their minions to call you

nice ^_^
btw, just a little parody-making tip: I always make pages end with the punchline or with the funniest frame, if you make it end with a "serious" panel it will ruin the fun effect of the previous panel a little! In other words, if I were you I'd make this page end with the gith mage's comment.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

vick330 In reply to Epantiras [2009-08-30 21:18:41 +0000 UTC]

I agree on that general point, your comic gets me at every page because you're good at punchlines. In this case I struggled with that last panel, I wasn't sure if I was going to put it on the next page.

Problem was it would have made page 13 too long, plus I felt the last panel contrasted well with the first, showing Leira's change of mind.

In the future though I will try to end with a punchline or a cliffhanger if possible. Thank you for the tip

vick330 In reply to Lweeling [2009-08-30 21:21:54 +0000 UTC]

Huh. Strange yet sadistic. Amie hasn't even tried to help Traumas yet and she's already zapped by...that guy in boxers(?). Well, at least that punched Leira's Berserk Button - or so the last panel implies.

And curse them Grey Dwarven Telemarketers. XD
