The show seems to remain quite ambiguous as to whether he is a creation of her, the medicine seller (perhaps an incarnation of his other half?), or a third entity entirely. One does wonder...

They really are, whatever the origin, though I have to admit I have a particular fondness for those used in the Balinese tradition and the ones from the Eastern European tradition I can never remember the name of. Noh masks are pretty frigging sweet though, even if some are really frigging creepy.

This is quite possibly my favorite character in the whole series, besides 'Kusuriuri'. C:

Nopperabou is really damn sad, and it's not even entirely clear why, I dunno. Particularly the way the ending is somehow so different from all the others.
My favorite is still the first Bakeneko though. Although I love watching Umibouzu just because the design on that ship is completely MENTAL and I love it.
I love the light streaks on this and your use of textures, but his neck seems a little weird.

If one considers the implication of her suicide, the way the ending plays out that it's pretty much unnoticed and unappreciated... in any case, it's quite the downer given the tone of the rest (mostly being 'well, you're an asshole so you're boned' and this is more 'poor woman gets screwed, dosen't even get to wreak badass revenge like in Bakeneko'). That ship... is YES, I would eat it if I could. I think Bakeneko is pretty much my favorite too, it's hard to pick though, they're all pretty dang fantastic (which makes me both dearly wish for and loathe the thought of a sequel series, which could be so good or so bad, though I did like 'Trapeze' pretty well, which is by the same director/designer but is quite a different show.)
It came out a bit over long, which... I possibly should have fixed, I think.
