Oh man are they ever. There's something not RIGHT with that mythology, but dang if it isn't fun to work with.

I love to see someone do a piece on the more obscure mythological / folkloric critters. I mean, vampires and dragons are done to death, but not many know about nuckelavee... or kikimora... or penanggalan... or flying heads... or bonnacon... or draugr...

Thank you! I really love the more obscure critters and I'm always fascinated by the stranger realms of folklore and myth in the world. I mean indeed the bigger better known creatures are great but the variety of things is wonderful.

Or cryptids? Personally, I love me some chpacabra- the original Puerto Rican version, not those sad little mangy dog things (which are actually 'Elmendorf beasts' not chupacabras)!

Ooh possibly. I'm always tempted to do something with the (?) Mothman or other unusual alien/ufo encounters. I miss the chupacabra phase of the 90s/00s when the depictions were a lot freakier than the mistaken mangy dogs.

Ah, the Nuckelavee. One of my favorite monsters of folklore, and without a doubt the only member of the Fair Folk I possess any degree of fondness for. Insta-faved!

Great work, although the head is usually said to be larger. Otherwise a very faithful and chilling rendition of this amazing monster.

Thank you very much! Man there's a lot of info on them, and while I do realize the head is often described as too large and lolling about the neck without neck strength enough to support it, but for reasons I can't recall, opted to not include it (possibly as it was left out of the variation of the research I was looking at at the time, though I don't recall my source). If I were to go about it again, I think I would get that in there as well, as it does further add to the unsettlingness of it. Thank you again! They're definitely fascinating things and I will have to look into drawing one again.

Hot damn. I love this picture so much. I've been researching nuckelavees lately, and this is GORGEOUS.
(Also, um, I'm not sure if you're aware or are worried about this sort of thing, but I found a Blogger entry about nuckelavees using your picture : [link] . Not sure if you gave permission or if that's a concern of yours, but I wanted to let you know.)

Thank you for letting me know, I've been having a bit of trouble with this sort of thing recently, I don't mind a lot but I do like a link back to my work, I'll see if I can't rustle that up from them. It's certainly a concern of mine and they did not contact me, thank you for letting me know!

I can only give the full names of two things that i would fear running into on a dark and stormy night more than this guy.
That means i think he's scary.
A lot.
Well, that weren't gramaticly correct.
But you get my point.
