Description Wow, i'm so impressed at how this turned out, it excelled my thoughts on what it was gonna look like - I don't usually blow my own trumpet and talk about how much i like my artwork other than "yeah i like it"

based on Linear #2 i'd wanted to do one of these for so long and tried to re-create it in Number 38 too but wasn't too impressed with it.

A coloured abstract from me! shock horror, but this has turned out so well there will definitely be more!!

Try using different shades or tints of the same color, or just warm colors.
Just a suggestion.

Yeah perhaps colours are the way to go.. though I need to invest in some better coloured pencils..

May I suggest Prismacolor. They blend well on paper. Sort of waxy.
I used them on my colored pencil characters.

How do you start something like this

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Veganvictim In reply to TylerSilverson [2005-12-31 13:11:56 +0000 UTC]

it all starts with a shape or an idea (i never seem to finish with something i thought i'd start with!!) and then i improvise and move stuff where i want to go - it's just random really

thanks - this is my favourite of all my abstract works - and also the first that i've used colour on and it's turned out okay - thanks

laethian In reply to Veganvictim [2005-10-26 11:34:19 +0000 UTC]

definitely a huge step ahead compared to your previous works... yet i wouldn't dismiss the previous ones... we as artist follow i guess a path that lead from work to work, especially when approaching at this level of abstraction. The colours are great because coupled to some curves more definite than others it gives optical layers of depth into the drawing, so the pattern becomes the support to the elaboration of psychovisual recognitions of objects, that are built according to the viewer's sensitivity and/or history.

Veganvictim In reply to laethian [2005-10-30 12:30:56 +0000 UTC]

yeah i think cause i see the steps i've taken and become what i have now and see the progression i am now unhappy that i didn;t do it before

thank you for providing such a detailed view of it - i don;t often get that - in fact i get maybe 1 a week - i try not to let my mind control the piece but invariably it always moulds it and shapes it - i want an "automatic writing" kind of effect

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

laethian In reply to Veganvictim [2005-10-30 15:31:41 +0000 UTC]

'automatic writing' i second that, and sort of felt it in most of your 'linear's. though i like the equilibrium (fight?) between design and automatism... maybe it's when the equilibrium point is reached that a process truly becomes a style...

Veganvictim In reply to laethian [2005-10-31 12:47:02 +0000 UTC]

yeah i notice with my finer lined style i do a lot of automatic drawing - whereas the thicker is more planned out

you're not allowed to comment on my work!!!!!

you're amazing!

i actually took your work as a frame of reference for this - the colours mainly, i never really thought about using colours before, people had suggested but i always thought it would turn out badly

now i'm hooked - i really like soft colours against the hard grey

i really should concentrate on being more precise, i still see flaws in my linear works

CyniSteve In reply to Veganvictim [2005-10-23 22:40:54 +0000 UTC]

Ah yes, the artist point-of-view when seeing mistakes that the non-drawers use. My mom is always like, "I don't see any mistakes!" when I show her my drawings. But I know they're there.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Veganvictim In reply to CyniSteve [2005-10-23 22:44:52 +0000 UTC]

haha - yeah i know that - but there's gaps and line variations, shading mistakes and smudges, alterations and finished pieces! - the eye of the artist is ever critical eh!!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

CyniSteve In reply to Veganvictim [2005-10-23 22:47:03 +0000 UTC]

Very critical >.<

Veganvictim In reply to CyniSteve [2005-10-23 22:51:58 +0000 UTC]

and you aren't? XD

okay - on some i am over critical - on this one (the invert specifically) i totally enjoyed doing it and can't see much wrong with it!

krugos [2005-10-22 02:50:40 +0000 UTC]

Finally some colour! lol. It looks really, really beautiful, love the contrast from colour to black/gray. The inversion looks great too, but the original is better! This is perhaps my favourite from all your works so far -yes, even better than the fish-. The way the colours are darker on the edges and lighter inside is very nice. Wonderful work!
Keep them comming, can't wait to see more of your linear works made with colours.

Veganvictim In reply to krugos [2005-10-22 09:53:22 +0000 UTC]

haha - yeah the colour really works well with it and (the inverted one) is my favourite piece i've produced so far

krugos In reply to Veganvictim [2005-10-23 04:15:08 +0000 UTC]

No wonder it is your favourite, the inverted is very beautiful. I like the original one the most, though.

Waa~aaa that's beautiful! Very tribal lookin', so sharp & crisp, it's amazing you can draw like that I love the inclusion of colour, almost as if that little bit you coloured is some really significant glyph to an ancient race or something... ^.^ hee hee
