A red dragon is flying above an abandoned valley. Ruins of a castle show that this has area might have been inhabited once, but it seems like no one is there anymore. Maybe this is at the edge of the world and it could have been the castle of a lonesome Wizard, that liked to live far away from other people to concentrate on his experiments. He probably blew himself up the day he tried to do dimensional travel with his new portal, but thats just speculative.The red dragon might have searched for something there, but it seems that he has not found anything visible yet. Or was it knowledge he has seeked at this abandoned castle? He might have found what he searched for and is onward to his next expedition.
So aahm, made up a little story for this pic. I hope you enjoy my latest painting. Too seldom have I drawn flying dragons, and I thought it would be about time to draw one more. I also wanted a calm scene with neutral lighting, that is far away from all that action and high contrast sunset kind of setting.
This painting was made quite different from the others I did. I didn't make a sketch for the dragon, but "molded" him out of a general shape, and modeled it slowly up. Same with the background. Might upload a WIP-Page in the future, if I can reconstruct my steps properly.

It's impressive! Also you worked with brighter colors this time and a slightly different style? It all resembles so much to a traditional style, my only advice would be to try and search some references of flying dragons so you get a more natural pose in the future, also the wing/shoulder area has an unnecessary amount of muscles spread around to the ribs. Other than that I love the detail you put into it as usual, like the horns, wings and scales

Yes, the style is different from normal. Kindoff figuring out to do things better. Is the pose that unnatural? I didn't find it too look wrong, but my view might change, when I look back in a few weeks. I feel like the foreshortening of the wings in such a painting is the hardest thing for me to do. It will look alright in skecthes, but once you colour it its coming to this "mmh uuh, wtf?" moment. The "unnecessary amount of muscles" around his ribs was intentional. I was kindoff thinking of a bull on steroids there, they seem to have this kind of muscle pattern. My dragons normally seem to lack the chest muscle, that should connect to the wingarm. I kindoff tried out how this would work here. I didn't find it to weird looking after all.

Ja, in dem Bild ging es mir hauptsächlich darum, etwas mehr zu die Perspektive und die Mukkies zu verstehen. Darum ist der Drache quasi so "schlicht", weil große Schuppen mehr oder weniger verhindern, dass ich im bereich Muskeln was herausarbeiten kann.

uuuuh richtig gut! ... gefällt mir! der drache ist hammer, das gesicht liebe ich
Die Farbkontraste sind ganz gut, könnten aber eventuell noch etwas mehr miteinander harmonieren damits natürlicher wirkt.
aber die details in der ruine sind cool, udn auch die bildaufteilung gefällt mir (:

Fabrkontraste sind etwas "off", da ich mich dazu entschied einen stilisierten Hintergrund zu machen, bei einem stilisierten Drachen. Das passt dann eher zusammen finde ich.
Habe die Lichtreflexionen im Fluss überarbeitet. Ja, irgendwas vergisst man immer irgendwie haha xD
