It was interesting to see how you were originally planning a halter. I like this version best, because the lack of a halter makes the pony seem, I'm not sure how to word it, but like it could just as easily be loping around on wild terrain as it could be standing warm and snug in a barn. Plus, I think a more colorful halter would have detracted from the very natural and well blended color scheme you have going on. Really beautiful work as always!
