Description Another in my series of fanarts to go with my story, "Temple of the Dog", which is an Inuyasha AU fanfic set in ancient Egypt. This is another semi-traditional Egyptian style piece, made to look like it came from the wall of a temple.

Yes, it's Kagome's friends, Eri, Yuka, and Ayumi as they appear in TOTD. When Inuyasha and Kagome visit the temple where her grandfather is a priest, she runs into her three friends, who are priestesses there.

The pose is borrowed from an actual Egyptian painting that I found on-line, but the faces are more anime-style, including the fact that the eyes are shown in profile, where in Egyptian art the eyes would be front-view. Anime eyes just don't work right that way, so I opted to modify them.

Sketched and scanned, and then colored on my Mac OS9.1 with Photoshop 4.0 and a very temperamental mouse. Straight cell-coloring with no shading, and a textured background that attempts to recreate the look of a stone wall.

Oh, and if you want to see great fanart for my story, be sure to check out the gallery at (links to the story are on the main page there, too).

Thanks! The pose was inspired by an actual Egyptian wall art, but I couldn't resist doing Kagome's friends this way. After all, they're priestesses together in "Temple of the Dog", and the scene had three girls in it. My muse wouldn't let me pass that one up.

This is really awesome. I love how you used a real Egyptian art pose. When I was little I was obsessed with ancient Egypt and wanted to become an archaeologist lol. I don't think I've ever seen a fanart of Kagome's friends. This is a very interesting fanart...I really like the pose with the choice of characters, and the overall look of it.

You're right - there isn't much fanart of the three friends, but there is at least some. Check this link - I did a search here on DA - [link] . Also, here are a couple others - [link] , [link] , [link]

Since they met Inuyasha in the manga - twice now - I suspect we'll see more of them at some time in the future.

I love the clothing and the coloring!

Thanks. Well, the pose is from an actual Egyptian wall art, but it just seemed perfect, since there were three priestesses in it, and Kagome's three friends are priestesses in my story, too. I made each dress a slightly different color to help set them apart, too.

Cool! They definitely seem to have different personalities here, like they do somewhat in the anime/ manga! What exactly are they supposed to be holding, though?

Urd-chan In reply to SylverAngel [2005-06-03 19:43:24 +0000 UTC]

I'm pretty sure they're supposed to be figs or some other fruit. The original wall art I used as a reference was rather small and the details were very vague - it was a banquet scene.

SylverAngel In reply to Urd-chan [2005-06-03 22:16:05 +0000 UTC]

Well, hey it turned out pretty good if it was really pretty small! But I would think lines like those are so much easier than normal body shapes lol. I need to draw some more so I get a lot of practice and can do some more on my own. Meh.

Urd-chan In reply to SylverAngel [2005-06-04 01:14:02 +0000 UTC]

Actually, the Egyptian style is much easier than trying to draw realistically, or even anime-style. They're not necessarily proportionate, but I love the flow of them. I'll be doing more of this style, that's for sure.

SylverAngel In reply to Urd-chan [2005-06-04 02:50:22 +0000 UTC]

I'm sure it is lol. I agree, though, the flow is really nice. And of course, they go with your story! lol.

Thanks. Again, a pose borrowed from an actual Egyptian artwork, but it seemed perfect for Kagome's three friends. They are priestesses in my story, after all. I really need to get better reference pictures, though. I had trouble finding profile pictures of these three that were bigger than a large icon.

Hey, have you updated your fic lately? I don't remember this part, but this is beautiful! I think it's interesting how they have their eyes like that! Nice!

Urd-chan In reply to YashasGirl1 [2005-05-16 11:28:52 +0000 UTC]

Well, Kagome's friends are at the temple of Osiris when they go there. I just decided to do a temple wall-art of the three and not try to do them in any particular scene. They have a very minor roll, although they will most likely pop up again.

I'll be working on the story this week, and since my new beta reader is ready to go, it shouldn't be too long before the next chapter is up.

Very nice! What are those things in their hands? They look like lemons. And is there a s[pecific reason on of them has a different colored dress? Other than those questions, great job!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Urd-chan In reply to Nethrion [2005-05-09 08:20:01 +0000 UTC]

Thanks. Actually, I think the things in their hands are figs or dates - again, I borrowed the pose and all from an actual Egyptian wall painting. As for the colors of their dresses, actually they are all three different - it's just that the one on the far right ended up standing out more. Guess I should have lightened the color more. No reason, except I didn't want all the dresses to be exactly the same, since there's no detailing in them.

Nethrion In reply to Urd-chan [2005-05-12 05:16:45 +0000 UTC]

Oh, that makes sense on the colors. The fruits too, I didn't think that Egyptians had gotten lemon plants yet.

Thanks. If you are familiar with the series, Inuyasha, you'd most likely recognize them, since they are Kagome's three friends from her school. They aren't in too many episodes, since most of the series takes place in feudal Japan (don't you just love time travel?), but they're always fun.

Thanks, and those are NOT lemons - they're not even yellow, and they are more heart-shaped. They're figs or dates or something. I don't even think Egypt had lemons back then.

Thanks. Well, they ARE in the story, and when I saw a picture of three priestesses, the muses just wouldn't let me resist. This particular one was a lot of fun to do, although there are things about their faces that I'm not happy with. Guess if I had taken the time to get some better reference pictures, it would have helped. The ones I worked with weren't much bigger than icons, and when I zoomed in they blurred. But, I think the idea of which one is which is clear enough. Thanks again!

I really like it all...the expressions, the lineart, the whole style! Just keep it up, I wanna see more!

BTW I finally started watching Fullmoon...well itΒ΄s very nice drawn and itΒ΄s also funny and cute^^. Me likes but it will never be my favorite series, means it doesnΒ΄t really rock my socks (lol, what a funny english slang idiom I have learned) but ItΒ΄s still adorable.
The worst is that I have to watch it alone because Thomas doesnΒ΄t like the storyline. ItΒ΄s the first time he doesnΒ΄t like one of the animes I watch
I now use Fullmoon to cheer me up when I jump on my trampoline. I always watch anime when I make sport at home

Well, the feel of Full Moon does change - you might find you like it more or less as the series progresses. What episode are you up to? I've been working on our FMwS costumes - hopefully they will all be done in time for Acen (this coming Friday). Mitsuke and Takuto's are pretty much done, but I haven't really even started on Full Moon or Meroko. Wish me luck - don't worry, I'll be sure to get pictures and post them.

Thanks. Despite the fact that this one had three separate characters in it, I have to say that it was one of the most fun to do. Kagome's friends are a riot, which is why I just had to include them in the story, even though only in a small way. So, they get their share of art, too.
