Description Because some people kept insisting that I post these.
Wow, I seem to be obsessed with trees.

Top left: one of my first oil paintings, done for class in February. Reference was a photo I took by a river near where I live.

Top right: birthday present for my mom, done in May. This one actually isn't quite finished yet. Reference: it's somewhere on DA, but I can't find it now.

Bottom: another birthday present for a friend of mine, done in June/July. Reference: [link]

I seem to draw nothing but trees lately! They're an amazing subject! They really are. And they're very good about staying still and all that.

I love your work.

Out of curiousity--what sort of courses are you taking in art? I'm supposed to be doing all that "planning" nonsense for college these days (as if that helps )and I've been contemplating doing some sort of art minor. Anyway, I figured it might be nice to have a few official sounding names to through around for my parents.

I've actually finished college now. (yippee!) But as for courses, my program was called Communication Art and Designβ€”which is a long way of saying Graphic Design. I took several drawing and painting classes, learned a bunch of computer programs like InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Flash, Dreamweaver...pretty much most of the Adobe programs. We also were put through quite a few classes about learning how to design (which is important) that included Art History, Communication Design, Ad Design, Portfolio and a couple others. There was also Mixed Media which was insanely fun: 3 hours a week of glue and cardboardβ€”it's like being in kindergarten again. Um...several web design classes, a multi media class that included some basic video production, more painting, a couple general courses. Yeah. All that in two and half years.

That sounds...amazing! I'm pretty excited for college but I'm one of those people who loves pretty much everything so looking at lists of classes is agonizing because I've got lists...endles lists and I doubt I'll have the time to take all the courses I want. But now these are definately going on the list. Art is one of the things I can actually legitimately see myself doing so, I guess I should focus more on that whole aspect. It's hard though. I want to take everything!

I've just started oil painting in January, it was a class for school. I have another oil class this fall, live portrait painting. I'm really looking forward to that.
