Description The mostly finished mural. This was done for a little girl's bedroom as her 9th birthday present. My first time ever doing a mural, or really working with acrylics. Sorry to all you acrylic lovers out there....but I hate em. Sooo hard to work with. Though that could have been because I only gave myself three days to do this.

Fun things: I built that tree in the top corner. That was insane. It's a chicken wire frame sprayed with insulation foam and carved to look like a tree. Mounted to the wall using whatever methods would work, and painted.

Sorry about that ugly flash mark on the right. I wasn't finished with it until late at night.

So, © me and the girl's room, 2009.
Time: about 30 hours, one weekend. Am I masochistic or what?

Haha, you're very sweet! Realism isn't hard to achieve if you focus on two things and two things only: Shape and Value. Color is important too, but first you have to have Value, which is light vs. dark. When an image feels unrealistic, it usually has to do with shape or value (or both) being off from what the viewer expects to see. A square tree doesn't fit expectations. A pond with no shadows or light reflections feels flat and two-dimensional. If you learn to look for these two things in nature and then constantly evaluate your artwork as you create it to see if Shape and Value is right or wrong, I can promise that you will greatly improve. Growing as an artist isn't so much about learning new techniques, as it is learning from what you're doing as you're doing it.

Rather long reply, sorry! And since you asked on another comment, this one was created in Photoshop only, using different brushes to get textures.

YYYAYYY!! thxs for the long post!! I am actually happy because normally, not a lot of people give me advices :/ but hey! thxs for telling me! that really helps a lot. Yea, I tried to use different brushes to get textures, but it is really hard because I have to get used to draw with tablet first. Btw, I just posted my new digital artwork, and I just want you to have a look at it. can you tell me what do you think? and what can I improve next time? D Thanks sooo much!! You are a prooo ><

It did, I was really happy with how it came out. Though very tired too. I really shouldn't push doing an entire wall like that in a couple days. ^^

Yeah I know, it does get tiring when you're under pressure.

But you did it well considering XD
