Description Flashback: Going way back to 1986 and the black and white indie comic scene and Grips launched itself on an unsuspecting public and quickly became infamous for the amount of extreme gore and ultraviolence and the highly stylized work of Tim Vigil. My PG rated homage to the character

I LOVED the Greater Mercury / Silverwolf line at the time. It was before Image so you did not have a ton of indie superhero companies. These books, Blue Comet, Innovation, Aircel, Victory Comics, AC... all provided some fresh takes on superheroics for those who had a taste for something different than the Big 2 offered.

It's great to see Grips getting some attention, especially after all these years. Great work!

Again you use 3d character and painting and still categorise it as photomanipulation which is much more difficult to do if using only photographies (even more difficult if using only stock available) - that's unfair - don't you think?

Galacticore In reply to Digitiel [2017-04-23 04:32:14 +0000 UTC]

What's unfair to who? This is an art sharing site, not a competition.

If you disagree with the tagging, than the word you are looking for is "Incorrect".

Don't you understand? cheating is cheating, competition or not is always unfair

Definition of Cheating: act dishonestly or unfairly in order to gain an advantage, especially in a game or examination.

As I said, the word you are looking for is "Incorrect", and even that would be your opinion and nothing more.

Good day, and I hope this has been educational.

Wow, thank you for your lesson, although "incorrect" act can happen to everybody,
this is not the case, he's here long enough to know the rules and don't be naive,
there are plenty of people here ready to do anything to be successful.

I'm already successful as a professional and will continue to be. I share work here because I love this community and what they do and am a devoted fan of many creatives here from seasoned veterans to young neophytes. If you think posting something that I refer to it as photomanipulation - only as the most accurate descriptor of my Frankenstein chop shop process, there's no intention to cheat or being unfair to the membership - it's simply a matter of attempting to most accurately describe my methodology, not be disrespectful to 'pure' photomanipulators. If hybrid compositor was available, or more specific options other than single category requirements we currently are, I'd likely choose multiples to round out the definition. But given that I use Zbrush, Sketchup, Photoshop, Painter, Maya and others as a unorthodox toolbox to get my results, along of course with stock photo samples, it seems on point. You're free to disagree, which makes it your opinion, which I need neither respect nor acknowledge unless it's credibly informed, but I will. So in summary, no conspiracy, cheating or deceptions here, simply a lack of options to accurately describe the appropriate categories the method I use would fall under. And as always, you don't have to like it, or believe it, and I will continue to give zero fucks either way and post my work under photomanipulation.

Glad you decided to talk and I am sure you're successful as well as you don't give "a fuck".
The problem isn't in techiques or programs you just described but sources you use.
In photomanipulation category, you are allowed to use only photographs and only from legitimate sources
with a link to original in order to see what you are able to do with them.
I wouldn't and nobody would pay attention if you add some painted details,
but if your work contains mixed sources like paintings, drawings, 3D characters or other
images generated by the computer then the link is not required but you should categorize it as mixed media.
The difference of what you can achieve in mixed media and photo manipulation is fundamental and that's it.

I appreciate the course correction. It does actually seem a better loose fit for my process. That said, in future best not to accuse me = or anyone - of cheating off the jump. Coming in hot isn't exactly the most effective method to offer what was actually informative intel. Thanks again, will abide

Grips was more a rip-off of Wolverine and the Punisher. But yeah, this one has a Daredevil look to it. Great work.

Ah the old 80's B/W indie comics boom.
Like a majority of those, he never got to TMNT level,
(obviously because of the content)
but although I never saw it myself. I believe that Vigil's other book "Faust" did at least get a live action movie.

Man this pic makes me feel old.

Awesome!  I remember GRIPS from when I was a teen...and Legion X-1 & X-II!!   They were from Silver Wolf Comics!
