...and that's what I did when I confronted Articuno at level 37 in LeafGreen actually. "He/She who fights and runs away, lives to fight another day!"

all the hard work for nothing.

good thing they didn't heal by escaping...

We have immortality formula that we inhale. It keeps us from aging.

Something like that actually happened.

Hmm. This is my guess. You have been trying to catch a Pokemon for ever and once you have it down enough it runs away right?

No, Eclipse has been trying to settle things with Estrella once and for all...only for her to flee at the last minute and regain full health, rendering the battle pointless.

You know, Idio has been trying to settle things with Sledge, but...Well, here's what happens.
Sledge: Sledge no like Bounty Hunter. Sledge kill thing he no like! *slams Hammer into the ground*
Me: We're gonna be killing you! Right, Idio? ...Uh, Idio?
Idio: *faints*
Me: God dammit.
So, I kinda know how that is...'cept I have to try and kick his sorry bandit ass myself, and he escapes in a hovercar so I can't catch him. A HOVERCAR! I don't even have one of those! Hell, I bet he stole it!

It's more that Lava hates me because my Estrella plot never goes anywhere.

You know, this reminds me of a Samurai Jack/Aku moment; every time Jack almosts finishes Aku off, Aku flees the scene, and thus the journey continues.
This comic is like a perfect example; after a long and grueling battle, the Estrella flees to live another day and torture more souls!
Eh, I'm not entirely sure. Perhaps you can tell me what's going on?

Basically I don't want to end the Estrella plot with an anticlimactic battle, so Lava hates me for that.
If you want Lava's side of the story, what I can guess is that he hates me because "my story never goes anywhere".
