Ok, this isn't a macro like my normal stuff but I kinda dig it anyhow.Shot with a 40D with a 100-400L.

that's a great owl portrait! the lil' guy has texture, pattern, and dark feathers contrasting against those striking yellow eyes that just draw in the viewer. How'd you get this shot?

It was shot from a decent ways back, she was sitting on her nest so maybe she was reluctant to move. It was shot from a tripod at I think iso 400, she was really in the shade and at 400mm I had to take a lot of frames before I got one that was good.
I need to reprocess this one a bit brighter, seeing it on my overly-bright laptop screen I think a little more brightness would bring out the detail a lot.

Well you can always photoshop (to a degree, at least) for better lighting. If she's got a nest at least you know you can get some more shots of her for a bit! Gotta love nature photography
