Description
WINNIE-THE-POOH is a fictional anthnropomorphic teddy bear created by English author A. A. Milne who named the character after a teddy bear owned by his son, Christopher Robin Milne. All of the early Pooh stories were illustrated by E. H. Shepard. In the Milne books, Pooh is naive and slow-witted, but also friendly, thoughtful and steadfast. Pooh is a talented poet and his poems and “hums” often punctuate a story. And, of course, Pooh is fond of food, particularly “hunny”.
On January 6, 1930 Stephen Slesinger purchased U.S. and Canadian rights to merchandising, television and recording to the “Pooh” character for $1,000 advance and 66% of Slesinger’s income (creating the modern liscensing industry). By November of the next year, Pooh was a $50 million-a-year business. Over thirty years later, Disney would purchase those rights to use the character.
