Description
Hong Kong Phooey is a clownishly clumsy secret identity of Penrod “Penry” Pooch, who works at a police station as a “mild-mannered” janitor under the glare of Sergeant “Sarge” Flint. Penry transforms into Hong Kong Phooey upon jumping into a filing cabinet, getting stuck and unstuck by his striped cat, Spot. Once transformed, he is equipped with the “Phooeymobile” and fights crime relying on his copy of The Hong Kong Book of Kung Fu. However, it is usually Spot or a comically unintended side effect of his efforts that solves the challenges. Voiced by Scatman Crothers, HONG KONG PHOOEY ran for 16 episodes (31 shorts) and was produced by Hanna-Barbera in 1974.
