" Lovely Item " – a term created by Tamaki to describe a cute accessory which when placed on an otherwise large, intimidating person ( such as Mori ) instead gives them the impression of being a loveable, gentle giant.Originally I was just planning to draw a picture of Pome the tanuki ( he’s so cute ^^ ) but then I thought that it would be best if he was sitting on Mori’s shoulder...
...then I thought that I’d better put Honey in too, since I hadn’t drawn a picture of him yet...
...then I thought that it left little Piyo out so I just ended up drawing the whole
" We-Love-Mori Club. "
I looked up some video clips and images of tanuki to see what kind of colours I should use for Pome. The caption box I pasted in and edited from a screenshot from the anime. For the school crest I created it from scratch and saved it as a separate file so that I can simply paste it in if I need it again for future Ouran pictures.

Your lineart is always great. How do you do it? Do you still go over your lines before you color in photoshop?

I love cute animals so I couldn’t resist drawing them ^^
For the line-art I ink it with a 0.05 fineliner pen and thicken it up in certain areas as I go along so that it has some wider sections and some thinner sections ( especially going to a thin point at the end of hair strands ). Then I rub out the pencil sketch underneath and scan it into the computer. I select the line-art with the Magic Wand tool in Photoshop and save it as a selection, create a new layer and then fill in the selection on that new empty layer in black ( I just choose a basic brush, move the slider to make it a super big size that fills the page and then just click it over the selection ).
I’ll have a layer for the original scan, one for base colours and then several after that for different levels of the shading and then the highlights and eye details, etc. and have the line-art as the top layer so that it is sitting on top of everything else. If I have it on a separate layer to the colouring it stops it from " eating into " the line-art and thinning the lines.

Wow, I miss traditional inking. I've become way too spoiled with drawing via tablet and fixing the proportions digitally, I ought to go back to traditional drawing/inking away like you do. :') Your work always pays off because your lines are great! And thanks so much for having the patience to provide an in-depth tutorial. ^^ If I could fave comments, this would be one of them. <3

I've occassionally altered some of my line-art after scanning but before colouring ( I'd have to go back and alter a lot of the other layers if I alter it after having started on the colouring ). Like in my Never Surrender picture of Grey Fox I thought that his left hand was a bit too small so I duplicated that part onto another layer, increased the scale of it and then attached it again. And sometimes I might nudge the position of a character's eye over a little bit. No problem, it's nice to know that someone is interested in it
