The piece is very poignant in its display of light and beauty and the subsequent mirroring of darkness and danger. It gives tell to the message that things are not always as they seem and that there is often more beneath the surface.
The use of color in turn adds to this sense of duality with the light of the sky and surface giving way to increasing shades of darkness and shadows as we descend into the image's depths. The darkening of the image as we go lower in it is emphasized even more so by the shafts and traces of light that penetrate the surface of the water to illuminate the creatures in the depths.
The subtle use of color on the sea creatures circling about below the water to illuminate parts of their scales, eyes and other parts as well lends a sense of eeriness and otherworldliness to the image as we see that while the ocean may appear familiar, there are terrifying and alien things lurking within it.

The strokes are amazing here, they give a sense of realism, darkness and terror. The colors also lends to these moods, both are come together to craft such uneasy textures.
The only real problem I have with this is the water. Is it a tidal wave? A Tsunami? Though it is more of a nitpick than anything else as this is more metaphorical than anything else.
The reason for my metaphorical interpretation is the quote in the description. No secrets, just hidden truths that lie beneath the surface. The hidden truth isn't her mermaid heritage but the kind of mermaid she is.

When the tempest is coming, the sea takes the colour of emerald, and all the sailors know the worst has to be feared... when the tempest is coming, the sirens appears and dance on the flows...

Interesting how you divide the surface and beneath the water. The sharp vins/ spikes on her back are a fair warning that she is the dangerous kind of mermaid. Love the monsters beneath the surface and the beautiful light behind them in the water.

She's got intriguing taste in choosing her pets
I do like background very much. Water is very realistic and that effect from hiding the sun behind it is great. That birds create the aura of peacefulness which is contrasted by those water-beasts under water. It makes an observer feel uneasy and worried and that makes art even better.
I like detailes on her body and colours. She looks kinda human, but not too much and it is why it's so different from typical picture of siren. I also love her expression - it is hard to read her real emotions.
To sum up: great art!
