I found that smudging was impossible for me to execute, even on an awesomelycoolsupacompuuter..... Untill i descovered paint tool sai, it allows you to smudge with the 'water tool' and it takes up NO memory...so you can instantly see the results of your smudging!
Sai is compatible with photoshop, you can even save files as psd's! Best program ever!
