Description Norma Pratelli Parenti (1921-1944)
lived during Second World War. She was an italian partisan (a member of an irregular military force formed to oppose control to Fascist Italian rule).
She provided soldiers informations, food and help of any kind. She was part of a Catholic group.
She was also a mother and a wife.
I want to focus that she died at the age of 23. I think that dying at 23 years old is tremendously early, whatever the cause is. You can die for any cause, worthy or not; but it is so sad when you are such a young and strong woman.

Norma's actions were discovered, and so she was tortured by Italian Fascists and shot by German Nazis that were retreating.
After her death, a Gold Medal of Military Valour was assigned to her.

I did this drawing because I am about to interpret Norma in a theatrical play, on July the 7th.
I feel so unconfortable .... and so inappropriate: I mean, she lived nearby the place where I live; she died for Italy, for freedom, for peace, for justice at the age of 23; I am 23 and appearently have done nothing out of my life yet. Of course times are different now, and of course I wouldn't like to swich my destiny with hers. But I can't help to think that Norma was extremely brave to make such strong decisions. She was married, she had a baby and yet, she fought for her ideals of justice.
This drawing is sort of a gift to her, and an offering. I hope Norma won't be offended by my interpretation (which is a silly thing to say, but I'm a very emotional stupid little one).

Here's some photos of her

Thank you for bringing Norma to everyone's attention and telling her brave and sad story. You've paid her a wonderful tribute with this picture and I'm sure she would smile if she saw it.
It is very hard to know the depth of our character until we are faced with situations like the one that Norma faced so I can understand why you felt uncomfortable playing her. I know I'm ages too late for the play (I hope it went well!) but just try to think of the things you are passionate about and you will find what makes you strong.
I like to think that being an artist requires a lot of strength and bravery; we put all of our love and passion into creating something, which we then release to the world for all to see and have an opinion on, and we do that time and again despite anything they say (or don't say). I think it takes a lot of guts to do that.
And you perform in theatre- most people would be far too frightened to do such a thing, perhaps even someone like Nora! There are many different kinds of bravery in the world.
And by doing your art and your theatre, and being well read in history and culture as you are, you are doing far more with your life than many others who are lucky to be alive today, so don't underestimate yourself! I think Norma would have felt flattered to be played by you!
