Description Alright...

So... I haven't posted something new for long time now...

I've been really busy at work since the Christmas time...

I did however work on this character design contest after work. I was asked by my ex-coworker to design the character. But, like I said, I've been too busy. So, I asked to direct the project instead of actually doing the design.

The contest is called "Dominance War II". 4 digital artist forums get together and duke it out by designing video game characters that represent each forums. Different forums represents different races.

This year's theme was to design a specialized soldier called "Shadow" from each race. The race we decided to go with is a machine race. By the contest rule, we had to keep the organic parts to 20% of the body or below.

So, I got my favorite mecha designer Genocidalpenguin to design the character.

And my ex-coworker did all the 3D related work. His name is Taehoon Oh. He is currently working as a Senior Artist at the Infinity Ward. We worked on Call of Duty II together.

Our character's name is "Bigun". Only because Karl was watching "Married wtih Children". And they had something that went by that name or something like that. And he named the file he delivered to me by that name... so, it ended up sticking to this character. LOL

I had a lot of fun directing (nice way of saying "nagging") this project.

But, more than anything, both Taehoon and Karl (Genocidalpenguin) did such an awesome job.

Well the contest entry was closed couple of days ago... Now we wait to see if the judges like our work or not.

I've been posting some concept/unused work on the scraps area. Some of you've been asking me what it was all about. Well, now you know. LOL.

That's awesome, but I view creatures and other such creations in terms of realism. Realisticly speaking, he's too top heavy, unbalanced, and could easily be set off balance, if not killed and snapped like a twig with a minor concussive blast. To support that kind of weight he'd be hunched foreward slightly (really an unbelievable balancing act at that point, too far foreward he'll face plant and be unabel to get up, too far back and he'll fall onto his back, not far ENOUGH back and he'd snap his back falling backwards.). Thing is about backpacks, they can kill you if you don't tighten them properly, unbelievable? Furthermore the strain on the ankles would be immense. A minor concussive blast to the gut or ankles would be fatal due to lack of armorments and stability. THose are the more major flaws I'd have to say. Just thought I'd be constructive with this comment overall, it's very very good no matter how you look at it.

This Model is one the most complex I've seen on Dominance war final survivors.
There is a big big chance u gonna win.
I mean this is chaotic and complex , that it is very very hard to model.

All concepts were done in Photoshop.

3D model was made in Maya.

I think Taehoon used Mental Ray to render the images.
