Ya he Joins to get revenge on Konoha for Itachi because it was really Konoha who wanted the Uchiha clan dead,Itachi was just their weapon of choice. Sasuke only lived because Itachi could bring himself to kill Sasuke this is all covered in Naruto Shippudden episode 142 ironicly enough the episodes called The Truth
