Oooohhh. Language teaching I presume?
Also, I WENT TO JAPAN! 8D Few months ago. I loved it. It's the only place in the world I would willingly go back to (except for beach holidays of course XP).

I do a lot of things... I teach a little English on the side, but mostly it's more about translation and editing... and just kind of writing their research papers for them since they have to be in English. But yes, my main usefulness for them is clearly English.

A better translation would probably be, "I needed to test my capacity."
That is hilarious. XD

LOL. OMG, I saw that, too.
It should have read - "I did it to test my abilities," if I recall correctly. I know it was something along those lines, if that helps you. But this was funny.
Because I'm too freaking lazy to do fansubs, but I watch in Japanese...

Yes, I do, but in the end it still means the same thing.
This made me laugh, out loud - something I rarely do. Thank you.
I actually like this translation as well, because it speaks for what Itachi's character is all about, how smart he is, and, potentially, how messed up you might think he is - whether from all the warring and stuff or whatever.
Really though he just loved his brother and wanted to prevent another war, and, potentially, seemed incapable of telling his brother the truth and whatnot.

I believe another translation is "I need to test my capacity."
If I was watching that and it said that I would just pause it and give it a wtf? look. XD
Do some people even think when they are making the subtitles?

From what I've heard, another way of saying that is "I needed to test my strength."

About the worst I ever heard is
Pein: in order to prevent war, we shall cause container and knife to cause war and prevent it.
Jiraiya: I shall not stand by and see Konoha engulfed by rife and pine I shall cease you

lol sounds like he's doing some cooking XD ... "I FORGOT MY CONTAINER" lol... I think that's the reason Itachi's is found to be... "Weird" XP

I think in Japanese he meant more along the lines of testing his capacity/ability.
But yes, the whole "confirm my container" is just... ugh... I hate bad dubbing.

Anaquita In reply to ColaChu [2007-09-11 16:31:11 +0000 UTC]
What they need is not only better translators, but also people who can actually use their brains... I mean they took Naruto's "dattebayo" (which really has no meaning) and turned it into believe it.... And whenever I hear "believe it" I now cringe. They so could have done better than that.

yeah. also.... the american voices in the dubbing...? question mark?

Anaquita In reply to ColaChu [2007-09-12 09:27:20 +0000 UTC]
Eh, some of the voices aren't too bad, in the dubbed version. Others though, could be better.
