This particular part of the series always bothered me aha...im sure there were better subtitles out there... but i never found them.... anyone wanna volunteer a better translation than "confirm my container"?

I do a lot of things... I teach a little English on the side, but mostly it's more about translation and editing... and just kind of writing their research papers for them since they have to be in English. But yes, my main usefulness for them is clearly English.

It should have read - "I did it to test my abilities," if I recall correctly. I know it was something along those lines, if that helps you. But this was funny.
Because I'm too freaking lazy to do fansubs, but I watch in Japanese...

I actually like this translation as well, because it speaks for what Itachi's character is all about, how smart he is, and, potentially, how messed up you might think he is - whether from all the warring and stuff or whatever.
Really though he just loved his brother and wanted to prevent another war, and, potentially, seemed incapable of telling his brother the truth and whatnot.

I believe another translation is "I need to test my capacity."
If I was watching that and it said that I would just pause it and give it a wtf? look. XD
Do some people even think when they are making the subtitles?

lol that's the point. thats how they translated it in the english subtitles in the show. and i have no idea.

In spanish he says "Lo hice para ver si era capaz" and well that in english would be something similar to " I did it to measure my capacity"

I think in Japanese he meant more along the lines of testing his capacity/ability.

What they need is not only better translators, but also people who can actually use their brains... I mean they took Naruto's "dattebayo" (which really has no meaning) and turned it into believe it.... And whenever I hear "believe it" I now cringe. They so could have done better than that.
