Vision:
I really like how you did the soul part of the piece, it makes it very mystic. The design of the guy looks good too. The main problem with this composition is that the guy and soul have very little interaction. At best, the guy is just looking at the soul, not really retrieving it. Maybe having him reach toward it would help to overall look improve.

Originality:
I do like how you incorporated patterns into the artwork, however there is very little that sets it apart from other anime/manga. I didn't think the concept was very original either.

Technique:
Again, kudos to the amazing patterning. It is very detailed and the wispy cloud looks pretty amazing. You made a simple composition look very complicated and detailed. The only thing missing from the piece is depth. It is not completely flat, but still shallow enough to lower the impact.

Impact:
Though the patterns were well done, the lack of depth and interaction didn't make this this piece stand out very much. It is eye candy while looking at it, but doesn't really stay in your head long afterward.

In my honest opinoin, =Toonikun -san did an amazing job on this. Personally, I like how the patterns seem to collide. The floral like designes on the kimono and the farris wheel like ones in the back ground clash together to give the feeling of the title of this deviation (Otherworld). The Farris Wheels look as if they were clocks, and it looks as if the character, who looks at peace following the light to the other relm, is melting into a river of eternal peace in my eyes. I really like this and give it two thumbs way up.

I think that =Toonikun was genius in this! The feeling and image came out great! It looks outstaning! I love the colours in this one. And the komono (sp?) looks great! The deisigns are just...amazing! I love the brushes, as well.
The effect is epic. The tones just blow me away. Amazing, just simply amazing. e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s… " width="15" height="15" alt="" title=" (Smile)" />
I can look at this all day in insperation. I'm sure that this is something you worked hard on.
I don't find anything wrong with it. All I can say, is that this is something to be truly blown away by. e.deviantart.net/emoticons/d/d… " width="21" height="15" alt="" title="I am a dummy!" />

Wow, I'm not even sure I can really write a good critique. This work is fantastic -- the character himself doesn't have any obvious flaws. You drew his profile wonderfully (I always have trouble with profiles haha) and all the little details really make him stand out, despite the fact that he is so similar in hue to the background. You are a master with textures -- While having so many in one picture is often the killer of good pictures, you chose the right ones to put in the right places. e.deviantart.net/emoticons/b/b… " width="15" height="15" alt="" title=" (Big Grin)" /> The coloring, though subtle is done really well. I think I'd like to see a little more glow come off of the figure, though...the flowy thing ontop of the lantern barely glows like it should and perhaps just a touch on the chin and nose would be nice, but not necessary. It just looks like the latern is too bright to be giving off so little light in those areas. Wonderful work! I fav'd it. <3

I find your artwork inspiring. In "Otherworld" I love the way you incorporate wonderful Renaissance patterns and art nouveau rendering into a united whole. Also the glow of the light and balance of dark and light is great. It is definitely other worldly!

Is this a traditional or digital piece?

Cuz It's submitted into a traditional category, yet you said you used photoshop CS3?
Or did you just use photoshop for minor editing?

Great piece btw. ^_^

Those little wings are annoying.
They dangle there as an afterthought.

I would remove them, and find another way to denote the Hawk tribe.

Otherwise, magnificent!

The details simply take my breath away, this is a wonderful piece of art! I love the clothes and overall composition, but I have to ask - is it even possible that you made the ornaments by hand? If not, could you please tell me where you found such brushes?

Once again - I think this work is amazing. Best regards!
