Thanks. Even though I live in Florida I love ice and snow.

I collect black and white copies of photos that I keep on hand as research. That's what I painted from for the sunset and bare trees on the right.

I really enjoy the way you paint these winter scenes...The cool tones are great, but then you've got little pink highlights of warmth to complement them. The shine of the sun and edges of the ice are nicely done as well.

Thank you. This was one of my earlier paintings and looking at it now I'm not really satisfied with the shape in the foreground. I sold the painting though(which so far, hasn't happened very often yet) but if I had to paint it over, I would paint that shape a little differently now.

To be honest when I first saw the thumb I thought this was a photograph.
The artist is seldom satisfied with the end result. But the viewers often are!
I think this is a great piece.

Thank you. I do paint from photos to a degree in order to make some areas more realistic looking. Where you see the sun shining through the trees is painted from a photo.

Thank you. The sun shining through the trees in part of the background was from a photo in an old calendar of mine that I used to paint from.

The background is so good it looks like an edited photograph. Fantastic work.

The rising sun is a perfect balance to the frigid cold of the ice and snow. It's warming me up as I look at the painting.
It's beautiful. Peace.

Reminds me of an artists rendition of the surface of Pluto!

Thanks. There's no trees on Pluto, though.
I assume there isn't anyway. No one is ever going to go there since its been demoted, so we'll never know.

Actually there's a probe called New Horizons on its way to pluto scheduled to arrive in 2015. Then we'll get detailed pictures of what Pluto and its moons look like

That should be interesting. I like astronomy.

Ha, quite rightly so!
I have not, and never will will demote Pluto.
The PL in Pluto is used for Percival Lowell's initials.
