Description Taken at Cleveland Botanical Garden - Cleveland, OH

For my second visit to Orchid Mania 2011 at the Botanical Garden, I really tried to get my focus beyond where I had been with the tripod and for this shot I was sitting on the ground while people looked at me funny. I but I like the more unique perspective and how the Lady's Slipper orchid is just jutting into the photo like an eager kid wanting to get his picture taken.

I've been attending Orchid Mania for only three years and each year I always see different flowers and am wowed by the efforts that must go into not only designing where everything will go but the care that must be given to all of these delicate flowers.

I like how you gave the flower its space here. It doesn't fill the frame so there's really a sense of its delicacy.

Thank you! I know that a lot of photos are of the orchids really close up so it cuts off the flower but I always like seeing shots of flowers relative to their surroundings too, how they can be one among millions and yet look solitary from the right angle.

A photo becomes more valuable if you have to endure someone looking at you funny.

LOL I think that's very true! If we don't humiliate ourselves for our art, are we really artists?

Nope to be successful you have to be willing to go the extra mile and be in awkward positions.
