The Vastator-class Heavy Star Destroyer was the Galactic Republic's answer to the growing numbers of large scaled CIS capital ships. Unlike the Venator-class, the Vastator-class was fully intended to combat enemy capital ships in one on one engagements. Due to this role, the Vastator-class was heavily armored, and protected by shielding found mostly on large dreadnoughts. Never the less, the Vastator-class still carried a sizable fighter, and ground complement allowing the ship to almost signal handily assault enemy locations. However, the ship's sheer size came at a cost, literally. Due to the large size of the war ship, not very many were produced, and by the end of the war, many found themselves being scrapped.
In the following years, the only remaining Vastator-class Heavy Star Destroyers left in the galaxy were either training vessels, the one or two few remaining in active service (their sheer firepower rivaled even what the Tarkin Doctrine required), or the single account of a rogue Vastator-class roaming the outer rim sectors. Not much is known of this signal vessel other than it had destroyed several Imperial-class Star Destroyers by 0 B/ABY (Before/After the Battle of Yavin). After these events it was never seen, or heard from again, and many dispute it's existence entirely.
