Description tigaer-design.com proudly presents: postcard from the fields of cydonia

vangelis - "conquest of paradise".
james horner - "coming home from the sea" , perfect storm soundtrack. my musical recommendations while viewing this pic. the electric guitar, in the horner piece, comes soooo damn sweet.

first of all... this is a MARS scenery. to EVERYONE - it's NOT wanted to be as realistic as possible. it's just the way i want to present mars. i know the surface is very unimpressive... - the whole planet seems to be just a piece of sandy rock. but i tried to present the next conquest of mankind in another light. and i think it came out quite nice. inspiration to this piece is to find in the galleries of `hameed - ~skurvy - ~steve-o-mac - `dinyctis - the movie 'mission to mars'. in the movie is this one very impressive scene where the camera swings over the landscape and captures a big sandstorm. with tornados etc - excellent job by the digital effects crew. that's what inspired me to do such a piece. it was quite a challenge to me - tried new ways of texturing. in the end everything turned out as i wanted.

a little gimmick aside... i added a original aerial picture of the region cydonia, taken by the nasa, within the pic. used it as a texture. just to add a slight bit of authenticity.

Wow, dont know how I missed this when you posted it last year, but looking through my messages, this one caught my eye. The colors are the kind the really strike me, and the landscape, sky and realism mixed with a fantasy land left to the imagination to do as the viewer wishes, is what I love about art, and I dont see that alot( more dont feel that alot), but with this one I do. You inpsire me to want to learn terragen...great work bro.

I don't know why but I get the feeling it's only the bright centre part that is the picture... the rest seems to just drift around. I've never felt like this at any of your other recent terragenmanips, but I just feel that apart from the stream of light from the sky onto that little bit of land, it's a bit... well boring I can tell it's good terragen and good post work. Just doesn't have the impact your recent work has had.

Og.

tigaer In reply to Alakai [2003-12-05 17:26:38 +0000 UTC]

it's not only terragen... it terragen in combination with photoshop. in the end there's nothing left of the original rendering... just small details. all other stuff was reworked etc. - thx for the comment.

very awesome man, but once more as with my previous comment before you removed the original, i think its just a weeee bit too noisy. maybe smooth it out a little bit?? It's mostly the mountains that get the most intense light that i see as pixelated.

Holy smokes man, this has got to be one of my favorite pieces that you have done. I have always had a soft spot for martian stuff for some reason. I find it very fascinating and this pic is a great representation of what it may be like. How on earth did you get those clouds like that!?! Very very very nice work here my firend, you are a true artist.

Keep in touch, thanks for all the comments and encouragement!
