Description Yeah, so I was on a kick of drawing L and B in the same picture today. Here, L is a young adult and B is a teen. I don't think B looks identical to L, so that's why I named it what it's called.

In one interpretation of their past history, L and B were pretty close when they were younger, like brothers might be. Anyway, B being a teen is why he's so short here--when he grows up he gets closer to L's height.

L is from the anime/manga Death Note, and belongs to Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata.

Beyond Birthday (aka B) is from the Death Note novel "Another Note: The Los Angeles BB Murder Cases", and belongs to the author, NISIOISIN.

Yeah, this is supposed to be before A committed suicide and things went downhill...I speculate that maybe B and L had a relationship like an older and younger brother, with B hero-worshiping L, before A's death. Then after A died, B decided to blame it on L and came to hate him...sadness.

Death Note is a great anime and manga series, so long as dark tones and death don't bother you in a story. It's really extremely smart and thought-provoking.

I highly recommend seeing and/or reading it! The art in the original manga is gorgeous stuff, very realistic.

I've met other people who haven't seen Death Note either, so don't feel too bad!

Thanks! I inked the picture, and was hoping to color it, but then I found out the pen I used bleeds if I marker over it...so if I color it it'll have to be CG, and right now I'm in a Copic marker kind of mood.

Thank you, hehe. I think B must have been a rather sensitive individual before he cracked...that's why he couldn't stand living the way he did anymore and went crazy because he couldn't have his own identity.

Yep, B might even have been friends with L once...but in the end his desire to be his own person instead of being "the copy" forever made him want to prove he was better than "the original"--L--and thus he tossed friendship/fondness aside in favor of singlemindedly pursuing his plan. He really snapped; I don't think he always had the mentality of a serial killer, but the way he was being raised finally became too much for him. Poor guy.

I've just started creating fanworks for B, so I've researched his personality and motivations to make sure that I portray him correctly if I write him into any fanfics or anything. Well...by "researched" I really mean "remember what I read in the novel and discussed it with other people on DA". XD;

XD; LOL...yeah, I only post a select few of my fanfics here. The truth is that the formatting system for prose on DA is clumsy (you have to do all of the Italics in the text by hand one by one with HTML tags!) so it's hard to use.

Yep, that's where I post all of my fics first thing--anywhere else is extra. I'm "Threshie" on fanfiction.net, too. That site definitely has MUCH more traffic than DA fanfic-wise. I think people tend to visit DA for artowrk, or at least the vast majority does.

Aww, thanks! Glad it works well with your mental image! The difference is more pronounced with B as a teenager, but I figured that when they're older and look a bit more alike height-wise, B and L would never pose like this, so I went with the younger look.

Yeah, I do. I'm just often on the move during the day and away from home on the computer at night...I'm not often at home AND idle long enough to re-read the thing. heck, the first time I read it I did so during car rides.

...Wow, not a moment to yourself, or at least a leisurely moment. A lot of things in series are a matter of perspective, these characters often have a very tilted perspective, to say the least.

By the way, I have theory on that DN one-shot where Near told them that he only met L through a computer screen. Consider this...L lied with almost every breath he took. He was borderline a compulsive lier. That said, Near is also a lier, and a cheater (why I love him). When you look at it this way, it's possible that he made that whole thing up...I mean, this guy is even more cautious than L was. Why would he start talking about himself, and risk making himself more vulnerable? That's my theory anyway.

LOL...yes, I consider the lying more of a possibility than the story being true. There are some problems with that too, though... Namely, that Near only brought up this whole past happening about talking to L through the computer because he was dealing with a Kira-like case and realized he never knew L very well so he felt that he couldn't think like L did.

If he was lying, I'm not sure it really would've bothered him that much, as he obviously would actually know what to do. That said...the one-shot, like any "OVA" type storyline, is after-the-fact where the series canon is concerned. OVA storylines barely ever fit perfectly with the original canon...I've learned to brush this off by saying "It's the OVA." This is also true of nudity....for some reason, it seems to be a requirement for OVAs to have at least ONE nudity scene. *shrug* I suppose they want to enjoy their greater freedom due to higher rating allowances because it won't be aired on TV, but ehh...

I think in the DN OVA's case, they went with violence instead by having the SPK guy who shot himself end up splattering blood all over Near. Dunno, though, I haven't seen the whole thing--there could be some nudity in addition.
