Description I wanted to create a serie where model can't control everything. I used male hands painted in black to make a contrast and to see how it turns out when other people do things and not you.
Why black? Because black show strength, black is such a strong and powerful colour. We are living in the world where people telling you what you need to do, media is controling you, technology, everything... I wanted to send a message that the only person who can actually controls you is nobody but you. Don't let anybody control you. You have to control yourself. Everything is in your hands and not others. (sorry for my bad english).

I think it was a mistake to play the race card.

The black vs white image is pretty much the race card: black hands restraining and silencing a tearful white woman. Could be the cover photo for a neo-nazi anti-black hate pamphlet. The message of capture and silencing could have been accomplished with any set of hands that is not imbued with racial motifs. A set of white hands, gnarled and callused would have done the job; so would a pair of elderly hands, another woman's hands, even the hands of a child. Once the black hands -- and in this case, clearly artificially black — almost a "blackface" with hands — were used, the race card was played, in my opinion. O'wise, a strong image, very crisp photography. The single tear is not easily noticeable -- it needed to be highlighted in some way. Through runny mascara?

i feel like you're overthinking it way too much
the artist clearly described why they chose to use those colors and it has nothing to do with race and given that english isn't their first language there's a chance they come from a culture that doesn't have as significant a history with light skinned vs dark skinned people so it wasn't even a subconscious contributing factor in the first place
if you ask me there's a serious problem if people can't even use the actual color black without somebody trying to make it about race, all it does is perpetuate unnecessary tension

I don't think the point of it was to be racist or illustrate race in any way, she is trying to show darkness, and black is a colour that is associated with that.

yes i agree that she is trying to show darkness, by being deeply penetrated and impregnated by 12 inches of darkness
