Thanks for such a nice comment. I actually used a white gel pen on the highlights here.

Thanks, I love the skin texture on your old lady drawing, how do you do that?

Oh and did you use any charcoal? (like on the upper eyes/middle of lips?)

No, I bought charcoal pencils to do just that, but they didn't seem to like the graphite (maybe cos I've only got really cheap pencils) The graphite was looking shiny on my photo so I cheated by using the Burn tool in photoshop to darken them back up before posting. (they do look dark on the actual drawing)

This is awesome! Do you have a visual reference you can link to?

Thanks. I saved it to my laptop from a photo site. (don't know if I'm supposed to get permission to use the image in a drawing or not) I'll look it up and post the link.

Gorgeously detailed and shaded. I love the form, tones, and lighting. Fantastic job with the eyes.

Thanks, it's a flawed work, I've a lot to learn but people are liking the eyes so I'm on the right track.

When I blend, I don't use tissue paper or anything like that. I just use a mechanical p;encil. Just practice on smoothing it a little more. Btw this portrait is amazing it looks so real

This looks really great and I love how you did the eyes. I think you did do the blurred effect really well but I can offer try tissues or toilet paper if you haven't yet.

Yeah I think I need to change my blending technique or my paper. Thanks.

I've only got cheap white card and cheap pencils (well, one good mechanical). I use tissue paper and cotton buds to blend but I never seem to get that smooth transition that you see on really good pencil work here. I think I'll buy some good paper and practice more.
