Description "But how slowly he walked! And his great, royal head drooped so that his nose nearly touched the grass." -- C.S. Lewis, The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe

The Chronicles of Narnia are my favorite books in the world. And that's saying something, because there are a lot of books in the world, and I've read a few of them. There's such magic in these books, that even though I've read them probably a hundred times each (no lie), they leave me speechless every time. So naturally I'm excited about the upcoming movies, and I sort of got on a Narnia kick.

This is the second piece I attempted solely in Photoshop, which I think came off better than the Prowl piece. I have so much to learn though, gah. So I always appreciate critique.

Oh, and for those of you who don't know this is Aslan, shame on you.

Exquisite. He seems so sad--larger than life, and yet subdued. The backlighting is perfect for this--it casts his face in the shadow. I love the long lankiness of his mane and the storm clouds, yet where he walks, it's light. I've seen grass do this too--when you pass through it, you turn the underside of the leaves up. I like the detail of light casting on his face too.

I share my love of Narnia with you. I really liked the first movie, detested the second (as a representation of the books blah. If it was its own story, it was OK.), and the third intrigued me. At any time, I can still recognize instantly a quote from this book. "They say Aslan is on the move. Perhaps he has already landed." I've never seen anyone portray this particular part of the book though, and now I wonder why not? It's such a poignant scene and you've captured it very well.

I need to do more Aslan, actually. The Narnia books are my favorite books in the history of the universe. Voyage of the Dawn Treader is my absolute favorite. I mean, I will positively geek out over that book. Which means I should do more Narnia art...

Aw, thank you so much! Yeah, I'm a huge fan of Narnia, too, and I've probably read all of the books a zillion times. I like the Voyage of the Dawn Treader the best, myself, and should probably do some art from that one. I can't wait to see that one on screen! (And I love Liam Neeson as Aslan...so perfect.)

Thanks again!

You are most surely welcome...
and not to promote myself, but through sheer invitation as one person to another...I would be very glad if you might read my poem...
I feel a bit indebted to you...your piece was very moving
I would only be the more pleased if you would see if I stayed true to the nature of the story

I love it! It's fantastic. As soon as I saw it on the thumbnail, I thought "That's Aslan". You've captured his strength and might, aswell as his presence. Well done ^_^.

Cya, God bless take care, oj

Aw, thanks. That's really a compliment, since I was sort of nervous about attempting to draw Aslan. He's not someone I'd want to take lightly as an art subject, so thanks.

And God Bless right back at ya.

I love C of N. Can't wait for the movies. As always, I like the little details that you put into the grass and fur. Looks sweet. And the sky is amazing. I can never get skies to look right digitally, so I gave up on it a long time ago and did them by hand. But yours is totally realistic. Very nice.

I was in luck for Narnia exposure: My third-grade teacher read a chapter every day after lunch recess throughout the year. I think we made it to the last two books, and I read the others on my own. I'm really looking forward to this movie, too!

And that is some gorgeous lighting, BTW.

Hooooeeee, lookit that mane! you *really* wanted to make this big guy seem like a king, huh? His pose is perfect, too, the lifted pay is tilted inward like it's supposed to for lions

Heh.. I was thinking 'Lion King' until I read the description. I had recieved CoN from a friend last year... still need to read it all the way through.

And I second how gorgeous that sky is! Wow... I had tried digitally painting a clouded sky like that once, and it turned out to be a lot harder that it looked.
