Description So I was giving a guest lecture at a local animation school—on character consistency, I think—and when it was the usual teacher's turn to take the class, I sat and drew these. The lights were suuuper dimmed, so I really only had gestures to rely on, which makes me like these sketches quite a bit. They're rougher than my usual fare. Though I did get a fright when the lights were switched back on and the drawings looked nothing like I intended.

I've given a few lectures by now, and I can say I really enjoy it. It's one thing to do online tutorials, but to see the students really taking in the information and learning—it's almost intoxicating! Totally awesome!

I'm a little sad that I didn't have the same opportunities as those kids, but at the same time I'm just so grateful that I can draw and paint without someone looking over my shoulder. That kind of makes up for everything! I'm sure a lot of you guys feel that way, too! I get a lot of messages from people who had to skip out on art school and some of my best friends here on dA are in exactly the same boat.

All I really have to say about it is that nothing matters more than doing what you love. Just keep drawing and posting, and your audience will find you—even if you're a dentist, a teacher or even a lawyer by day.

Wow, cool! Sounds like you had a lot of fun with those students!

Sorry things didn't go exactly as you planned though. I know of that feeling all too well.

That sounds like fun!  I'm graduating in the spring with my teaching degree, so I guess I'll be one of the of the ones that's a teacher by day, artist by night.  I never got the chance to go to art school - I constantly worry that I made a mistake, and I'm sad to have missed the chance to make loads of art friends and memories.  But that's the great thing about online art communities like dA, countless of opportunities to make those connections you would have missed out on otherwise!

Good luck on future lectures!    Teaching is an amazing experience.

Also, I don't know if I've commented on your work before, but I really love the life and style you bring to your art!  Keep up the good work!

So true!! I couldn't go at art schools after finishing highschool because it's almost completely blocked for entering it, and being sure about finding a job after... Sooo in 3 years, if everything is okay, i'll officially become a Biology/Geology teacher haha!
But yeah, you're totally right, and that kind of words makes me keeping hope that i could always draw, no matter the job i'll do.
And as always, your drawings makes my heart beat so fast!

Beautiful message! I'm in the same boat. My mother disagreed with my art school coming first. She suggested that I first pursue a more "practical" degree n then go to art school as soon as my first degree is compete. I have been working on my art since the 7th grade and when I see other artists here on DA, I feel like my work is far inferior to theirs. This is especially true when I see ur incredible pieces. Ur skills are truly amazing n I sort of set ur skill level as a sort goal that I'd like to reach. I have watched a couple of the tutorial videos u have posted and I find them to be very helpful.
My dream is to someday work for Disney. It has been my dream since I was 8 years old. But there are days where I feel my goal will never be reached. but seeing ur message now is restoring my hopes. So thank u & please continue to create beautiful art!!!

That's right, do what you love even if your life took you through another path. I'm an engineer but I hope to draw like a pro one day!

Yeah, teaching is a lot of fun! But it's hard work, too. I teach using slides, so I always gotta compile it all beforehand.

Only when someone calls me for a once-off lecture here and there. Professionally, I'm studying to write an entrance exam for lawyer stuff.

Seriously, in such dim light? Wow, even then you're amazing!!! I'm glad you had fun with it, I bet you did great and taught those students well! You are an amazing person and artist, Ez X3

Awww, you're too sweet! Thank you!!

I hope the students learned a lot from me. Some of the students had very little experience with drawing (most of them were actually studying 3D modelling, animation and texturing—stuff like that) so I couldn't do anything too in-depth with them. I still enjoyed it a lot, though, because I ended up learning about 3D stuff, which I really know nothing about.

Awh man I wish I could have heard the lecture. Character consistency is so difficult, online tutorials can only help so much (I've never actually seen one about this though). Love the rough sketches I'm so jealous, they look better than my finished work lol

Maybe I should upload the actual lecture slides then? I'm sure it should be okay if I credit the people whose artwork I used.

Thanks for your kind words!
