Hey guys!
I've been studying so hard lately, I'm just getting the feeling that if I don't draw something, I'm gonna go insane. So I quickly whipped this up.
Been super nostalgic lately, so I decided to dig deep and redraw one of my oldest characters. His name is DG and we've been together close to 10 years now.
This is basically his ORIGINAL original design. Blue t-shirt omg original. 
I've since redesigned him, but haven't really touched him in years (check him out here [link] [link] [link] )
I created him when I was 12 years old. Looking back now, I find his origins fascinating.
If anything, he was a coping mechanism. Way back when, I found it difficult to relate to other girls and as a result I isolated myself and developed gender identity issues. (People call it being a tomboy, but whatever.) So I created this male character who was always being mistaken for a girl and was bullied as a result.
Read into it what you will. I think it's awesome!
Today, I know now that I was just a late bloomer.
I didn't even notice boys 'till I was 18 and I'm only now feeling the urge to do my hair and make-up. 
Either way, I got a pretty cool character out of it.
I'm keen on developing him some more. I hate that he's always on the shelf like he is. 
I can at least proclaim he's not being mistaken for a girl anymore. That was a lame idea! Share stories about your first characters, please! I'd love to read!!

This is so awesome that you shared this! And I'm so taken aback because my 'story' or whatever is almost exactly the same! So rather than gender identity issues, I became super lonely and created my own group of imaginary friends. I noticed boys but I knew better than to ever try anything and I'm seriously within the last maybe 4 years? just giving a damn about how I dress and stuff. But my characters, man. My art was my only outlet and that's how we communicated. If I didn't have my drawings I don't even know who I'd be today. And I'm much older now... but because of how grateful I am to my imaginary friends for 'being there' when no one else was, I still think of them for some things lol Anyway, I hope this wasn't too creepy! And I adore your art style! It's what I strive for lol

I love his expression! A lot. I like how his big, expressive eyes are looking up, off to the side, and how his eyebrows work with the eyes to give him this thoughtful look. He doesn't radiate like, super-over-confidence, with that thoughtful look in his eyes and his ever so slightly shy smile, but he doesn't look weak or anything at all either. I like how he's appealing as a heroic, main-character type guy, but that he looks like he has a real personality, with concerns, dreams and thoughts -- he's not just a "ha-ha, I know everything guy!" but rather the type of character you can identify with and be interested in cheering for.
This might be weird to say, but I really like how you draw noses! You just just a couple of lines, which is great, because it's a struggle for me to balance between a super-simple one line anime-style nose that lacks unique character and a too-many-lines-overly-complicated nose that overwhelms the face. I think the way you draw noses implies a sense of realism without feeling out of place with your wonderful, lively, animated style.

I used to pretend to be a character named Danny, she was a tomboy. more of a..."dont make me mad or you will regret it" kind of girl. Since i was always never taken seriously....(is too nice of a person)
plus being short doesnt help....
maybe i should draw Danny and see all that past just throw up on the page and see how she turns out.

Your Danny story is very interesting! You created a toughie because you were a softie. Makes sense in retrospect, hey!
Funny how when we're kids, we idealise ourselves in our characters. I wonder if it's a coping thing or if it's maybe connected to an overactive imagination. 
I'm really taking an interest in this stuff lately, I should really go talk to a child psychologist. 
And I love long comments. I encourage them.

and I am still a softie. PLus i make most ofmy characters tall because I am a short person xDDD I am only 5'0 and most of my characters are like 5'5 and up xDDD

Aw, he's awesome...thanks for sharing. One of my very first characters was a little doggy, called spotty. He looked more like a rabbit, but I did a whole comic book on him.

Its quite sad because I haven't drawn any of my actually characters in such a long time, being so preoccupied with college and student life.. meh x[

I have my entire story and all 43 characters have been drawn over and over through out my childhood.. Just right now I haven't had time for my story or characters because of school and life. x( I also neglected them badly after my mom passed away in 2007 (Its okay, I'm ok) I just stopped drawing them and been connected to them.
Anyway, I know they all feel abandoned but not one day goes by when I don't think of a character of mine. I know all their birthdays off by heart (eccentric I know xD )

I'm actually quite sad that I can't remember the very first character I ever created. However, the oldest character that I have right now is actually a group of characters based heavily off of the show Tenchi Muyo ([link] ).

Haha thanks! And I think I kept renaming them because I couldn't remember their names... XD Only Zaire and Saihoshi, and I just recently remembered Kyron's name, and now that I have I think I like it. Here's the only drawing I have on dA; it's of Kyron's sister Gloria. This was a previous name, Stella [link] . I guess I'm just trying to find the right fit. X)

Thats scary, He looks like my OC Max, excapt in your style.
I made Max up when I was in Grade 3. I only had 3 Characters back then, but wow...really does look like Max, Max's hair colour and ORIGINAL Blue T-shirt
