Description A Mirialan Consular

[inspired by a scene]

Astrid's breathed out the freezing wind catching the vaporized cloud with cold fingers. Her violet and blue eyes scanned the mountaintops which drew the jagged line upon the horizon. They were high up on the mountains of Damoria and it was not much different from the high mountains of Mirial. Cold was no stranger to her. She gathered the leathery cloak about her securely, the rough silver lining of pelt brushing up against her neck.

”What was that?” Keevin asked as he lifted the binoculars from his eyes.

”I don't think it was anything good”, Astrid said quietly, as if the enemy would be listening in on them already. ”But we should check up with Master Vesh. Maybe he has heard something from the subspace channels?”

”Yeah, come on. We better hurry up.” Keevin was already retracing their steps in the snow.

The path that they had trekked down was a narrow one, snow covered the rocks and lumps thinly, mostly making the steps treacherous along the black ice that lurked below. Astrid and Keevin negotiated through the snowy path up, towards the camp they had as base for their expedition. The mountains surrounded them with their majestic size, making it hard to perceive distances.

The human and the Mirialan heard a distant rumble when the agile scouting ship soared over their heads, higher between the tips of the mountains' pointy teeth. The padawans ducked for cover as one as another scout shot past them high above. They exchanged quick glances as they waited for more scout ships to pass them. The air vibrated with electricity. Astrid could feel the agitation like it was a beat that a great drum was making. It pulsed in the air. Keevan rose up slowly, his expression worried: “They flew towards the camp. Do you think they saw it?” Like an answer to his question, a volley of shots heard from the distance, higher up, where the camp was, not too far from them now.

Astrid gasped out, making a mad dash towards the camp. She was stopped by Keevan who grabbed her arm: “Wait! I think Master Vesh is trying to tell me something... can you see it?” Astrid whirled around, realizing that Keevan had his eyes closed, focusing on a mental image he was being relayed. Adrenaline coursed in her veins and she had to take a good grip of herself before she could calm herself down. She closed her eyes, trying to get a fix on anything that Master Vesh might e broadcasting. She knew though that it was in vain. She had little abilities in mental communication. She could faintly feel Master Vesh but that was all. She had no idea was he in danger or not.

“What is he saying?” She urged Keevan, looking up, trying to figure out were their positions made and what was really happening around them.

“I'm not sure. But I think he doesn't want us to get back to camp. I think he is trying to show me a place somewhere in the mountains... but... it's .. I can't make out anything of it!” Keevan's face pinched in the effort. He opened his eyes, grimacing. Astrid could sense the horrible headache that thrummed in his head. She grimaced in a mirroring way:

“So we have nowhere to go? What should we do?”

“I don't know.” Keevan sounded just as desperate as Astrid felt. But he took stock of their surroundings, licking his cool lips. The night was falling soon and it was going to be really bad if they didn't find shelter. Astrid followed his example and nodded: “Okay, so, we should find cover and wait for another contact if Master Vesh makes such. I think we can assume Panjib is with him. We should head down I think.”

“No, the enemy is down there.” Keevan said quickly. “We should stay on this level.”

Astrid thought on that with a slight frown. It was true that what ever had sent those scout ships were down there. They looked Imperial to her but she didn't really know much about starships. They needed to go down and find a way out of the planet.

“We can't stay here...”, she started but Keevan shook his head strongly. He was a stubborn fellow and he had a streak for leadership. At least he wanted to have. He started moving and Astrid found no other solution but to follow him as they tried to find cover.

And then what? She thought with a slight pang of distaste for the logic of Keevan. Until she had a better idea she knew she should stick up with him. If they would get separated, they would be as good as dead.
