Description Commissioned illustration of the Miraluka, Mori Kaal.

Really enjoyed drawing this. In a way, it's also broken the mold, as far as costume designs are liked. I'm not exactly fond of more modernlike clothing, (hence why I'm hardly willing to ever draw them! XD) but this came out much better than expected.

Great job! But you should know that Miralukas don't have eyes.

lol, this was a commission piece from way back, so I don't remember all the details... only that she was from an offshoot part of the race?  *shrug*

I like how the clothing turned out too Though she better watch where she puts her sword, one false move and she can cut off a leg! And it looks like she doesn't want to look at something, I wonder what it is..

Hehe, that's what I said to Brian about the lightsaber too. Personally, I'd have drawn it switched off in her hand, but he seemed pretty optimistic about having it on, so I stood by his wish. Anyhoo, it turned out alright in the end, and given the 3D measures I used as reference, the saber's beam isn't as close as what might be assumed at this angle.

Well I can hardly imagine a picture of lightsaber without it being turned on! A good compromise then

awesome - I love it. Especially the organic looking lightsabre. Is she from those comics you've been reading? Is that a ring on her left hand? Who is/was the husband

Aikurisu In reply to TaijoSmroc [2008-06-28 13:34:51 +0000 UTC]

Mori's a character created by a friend who commissioned me to draw her, so nah, no comics.

As for the ring? Just shading. Btw, thanks for fav, mate.

From what i remember about the RPG and expanded universe lore, Miraluka have no eyes at all "Featureless eyesockets" could mean a lot of things. In that there aren't even holes there, or that they are just sunken areas of the face. If you 'evolve-away' your eyes, chances are the holes just fill in, for health reasons. Usually they wear something over the eyes, like blindfolds and sashes or low hoods. Now THAT would look creepy.

[link] "They differed from Humans in that they lacked pupils or irises, instead bearing only vestigial white orbs". That's what I went by. Otherwise I would have strongly urged to hide them with said blindfolds and so on.

Okay, several day's worth of coffee now.

I really am hugely happy with this - her skin tone is perfect, and as always, the way you've drawn the fabric and clothing is exceptional. I am thoroughly enamoured with the way her eyes came out - it's clear she's blind, and equally clear she can "see" you anyway.

The background is a thing of beauty - the ghostly outlines of the broken rock columns are very nice, and the colouring sets off the darker shades of the character herself. This is an excellent piece, and I'm very happy with it.

She seems to make people do..."different" things when they draw her. It's something that I wonder about occasionally - either it's the character herself or, more likely, she's just different from many people's preferred styles.

Thanks a million, mate. Also, get TF2! There may as well be one actual Aussie sniper out there.

Aikurisu In reply to RSable [2008-06-28 14:08:40 +0000 UTC]

Maybe when I get a better comp... but then, TF2 shouldn't be too hard to manage even on this ol' PC, right?

Anyhoo, glad you like how this came out, mate! I'm actually a little surprised how I went with the background, because it was done with a more or less trial and error strategy. Since those last couple of sci fi works too, I feel I'm understanding lighting a bit better too...

Wow, truly awesome. Nice change from your more typical art... makes me want to get myself in gear and finish my current art....I realised far too late that it's at a much higher resolution than it needs to be....oye......nothing much to be done about it now I suppose. Hmm....why are the miraluka so damned popular? It's really odd...I love the silver lightsaber and the design of the hilt.

Aikurisu In reply to Morgalahan [2008-06-27 17:55:29 +0000 UTC]

Thanks, Stacey. Not sure about the Miraluka being popular though. o_0 This is the only character from their race I'm familiar with as someone's character. Personally, I wouldn't mind creating an Arkanian offshoot. I'm fairly fond of Jarael's design.

Morgalahan In reply to Aikurisu [2008-07-01 14:54:23 +0000 UTC]

Nah, lotsa people want to play them. My friend....:iconwhatidosisecret: other people. Not sure why, think it's that they can 'see' the force, only way they do see. Arkanian's look good. The races are so varied that it's a really difficult decision. There's even a race that look a lot like elves.

Aikurisu In reply to Morgalahan [2008-07-02 13:59:16 +0000 UTC]

Hmm, well main thing I'd look at it having a character that's close enough to be human but has ears similar to Jarael's... and have long lives. Surely that's not asking too much.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Morgalahan In reply to Aikurisu [2008-07-02 14:36:46 +0000 UTC]

lol, not to much. If you want to have a character with a long life then you should choose wookee, they live to about 800. I usually want to steer waya from human if I can, they're a bit boring nowadays, and the SW universe needs more non human characters. All the mains are still human.

*sigh* started on an RP server with a friend....it's more addictive than a normal server since we actually roleplay and have RP events with our guild...it rocks...we're racing to level up since we want to be high level in the guild, which is as old as the day we started on the server...the leader is only lvl 48. We want to level up quickly so that our rp events will go more smoothly. We're going to purge the Felhill in Ashenvale tonight....slay the demon wretches that inhabit it and cleanse the land of their vile taint...and all that jazz

Till they respawn 5-10 minutes after for someone else to do it all over again.

Eh, I'm not sure what to play anymore. The only MMORPG game that currently wets my appetite for now is Warhammer Online. Been doing some research on it, and I really like what I see so far. I mean the classes alone sound like a thing of beauty... especially the concept of the Witch Hunter and High Elf Swordmaster. lol, that and the unbelievable cinematic trailer that makes the trailers from WoW look like they were done pretty badly... I missed the time to clear the hill....the pc dying was a good excuse, but it makes me upset since I power levelled to be able to do this...This time last week I was level 16, now I'm 31...

Honestly, I dont think I'll get wow out of my system until I at least reach max level with one or 2 characters. I have a hunter and a new druid now, on separate servers but I think I might pay to have the hunter moved to the rp server. Being able to roleplay just adds such a huge dimension to the game that I never before considered. I roleplay with my friends playing D&D, and ebing able to do it in a computer game is amazing fun.

As to the poll you had a while ago, I think The Elder Scrolls Online would have a very good chance of being a fave for me if they made it...might even compete with The Forgotten Realms Online...

lol, trust me... once you get to the end of level content in WoW, you'll either feel like ditching the game for something more meaningful or just be too addicted to it. I want an online game where I can be the character I want to be, and do what I like best. So far none have given me that. Guild Wars... it had the potential, but it's more of an arcade game than anything. There's nothing really meaningful within. Still, it's good to play on a casual basis and give me short bouts of inspiration. I think that game gave me near 20 or so additional characters to be in my world's universe with comprehensive family and background lore. ... that's actually a lot more than what WoW has given me.
